Here's a video I made today. It isn't comprehensive as I'm missing some of the cylinder cleaners, but gives you a good idea of how the Hoover UK range looked 25-odd years ago!

It beats..As it sweeps...As it cleans...

Hey mate

So your landing now has the most grit free carpet in Worthing then ;)

Seamus

(who goes green every time he sees the 507..)

Fantastic!

I like how you worked form bottom of the line all the way up to the top of the line. :)

I was thinking the same as Seamus--cleanest carpet in your home...

I do love that Junior Dirtsearcher! Such a cute machine!

Out of all of those, the only one that I could hear that really sounded the same as it's sister macine in the US was the Constellation.

Thanks for sharing!

Excellent video

I thought the Dial-A-Matic (or "Convertible" in the U.K.) sounded alot like its sister here in the states as well. I would have to say it's my all-time favorite Hoover upright. Love that shade of blue. I also liked the Junior Dirtsearcher as well....

Thank you!

I love doing these little movies, they're so much fun to make!

Not that difficult either, I'm only using a camera that can film in 30 second bursts, and windows movie maker.

Seamus/Fred: Yes, that bit of carpet is pristine; shame the rest of the flat is a tip LOL. Actually, it's not that bad, I've just been hauling machines out and doing work on them recently...

Seamus, you had better not watch my newest film then... just close your eyes and repeat "I've got more Connies, a Harlequin and the late model U1012!" until the green-eyed monster subsides!

Awesome!

That machine is really neat! And your video does it justice.

Gotta love the de-luxe model! How scarce are those combo rug/floor tools? I'd love to play with one! I do have one of those turbo tools--one new in its packaging, one that I've used extensively.

Does that machine have a lot of power in comparison to a Constellation? Rather, in comparison to a Connie--what's the power/suction like?

Keep 'em coming!

I should explain the green eyed monster :)

Hey Guys

I try not to get collection envy that much- as Si points out I do have a few pretty rare ones myself, the UK spec 858 and U4003, and the mail order U1012 Junior spring to mind. I really cant help it with this tho, for the reasons below lol ;)

The 507 Conquest is probably the rarest 70s model to come out of Perivale(actually it was probably Cambuslang).

This one was maybe used half a dozen times before being put back in the box for 35 odd years!

It didnt come from Ebay so was very reasonably priced!!!!....

Thats why im a tad green lol :)

Seamus

Nice one Simon, great to see th classics in action, and that Conquest, FAB, all you need now is the large purple serge elephant...LOL

You`re gonna have to put me out of my misery, what is the tune?? it sounds like a Northern Soul,Wigan Casino Anthem!!!

Cheers, Mike

p.s. if anyones got a flip-over floor tool for sale let me know

Fred, Those floor tools don't seem to be very common, they would wear out where they swiveled. Plus I don't think they did a great job (although IMHO they're more effective than the floating brush type), my mum and grandma always used to the upholstery nozzle with their Hoover canisters as they thought that worked better.

I don't use the Conquest enough to gauge suction power as I'm frightened of damaging it... but it's slightly more powerful than the Connie (675 watts, as opposed to 600), and the expelled air doesn't have to hold the cleaner up, of course!

I've got two turbo brushes too, the unused one that came with the cleaner, and a ropier one. Fred, have you found a way to dismantle the turbine shaft on these? my tatty one is a bit stiff, no matter how much WD40/light machine oil/grease I try to put down it!

Seamus, should anything happen to me, you're the first in line for that 507!

Mike, the music is 'Groovin' with Mr. Bloe' by Mr. Bloe. Session musician bubblegum (Elton John was rumoured to play on it), makes me think of hot-panted dollybirds buying Instant Whip and Vim in a Fine Fare or MAC Fisheries. I am so sad...

Great Video!!!

I especially love the Conquest 705!! I love the flip tool on the Constellation and the Conquest! I wish we had those here in the US!

Thanks for a great video!!!
