Kinda looks like the ones you may see at yard sales.Probably worth 20 bucks. But does it have problems--like a broken fan?

DJ

this might not be a bad deal, especially if you are in DSM. I was looking at that myself, especially since beverdale is just "down" the street from me. (live by MH mall)

I'd be all over that...

What a great price if everything is up to snuff. The lowest price on a working G series Kirby I've seen on my local Craigslist is $60, and that was just once. They're mostly a lot more than that.

How much are folks selling G series Kirbys for in your respective areas?

If you picked it up, I hope it's working well for you with no other repairs or expenses!

It goes either way . . .

There are lots of people prepared to sell at reasonable prices -- then again there are many that are not. I have seen many a Kirby literally ready for the junk heap that some seller was expecting a couple of hundred dollars or more for. Why? Because it was a Kirby.

In this case -- 20 bucks being no money anymore -- if I thought I was prepared to handle or fix minor problems that have developed with the machine or even use it for parts, I'd buy it. Seeing the diamond in the rough is what collecting is about.

However, for people out looking for a usable vacuum cleaner, if prices start getting silly remind the seller that despite the fame of the brand, you are buying without warranty and are therefore responsible and totally on your own for all additional expense should repair be needed.

Here in NE Iowa....

....I see at least a couple of Kirbys a month in the thrifts, as well as accessories. Usually they're marked from $15 to $25. They usually look complete (I confess that I'm no Kirby expert), and are marked "OK," meaning that they do power up. A friend of mine in Chicago pulled a minty G5 - shiny as hell - out of the Dumpster of his building; another resident had discarded it. It worked perfectly, needed nothing, and had evidently been Kirby-rebuilt at some point.

All of which goes to show that a lot of people out there have no clue that any vacuum is worth more than a new piece of plastic crappola from Mall Wart.

Speaking of cheap pricing

I picked up my 80th anniversay edition G4 for $40 at an esate sale in great running shape with attachments, warranty, and manual, and best of all no repairs out of pocket thanks to old people owning it the entire life of the machine.
