I have a few!! I have been very fortunate to find many of my holy grail machines, but some I had I foolishly got rid of years ago, such as a Eureka 255 upright that was candy apple red and a mint Eureka 260, they went to good homes, but I wish I still had them, Now for the machines Ive never found list, An Apex Dyno cleaner, I have 2 Stratos and 2 Aeros but no Dyno, A Cadillac Quick Vac canister, I do have the canister, but no hose or attachments,a first generation Westinghouse canister, I have the tank and upright, but not the canister, and the most holy grail of them all, a 1961 Lady Kenmore Whispertone with the L shaped powerhead and pistol grip hose, this was the first pistol grip ever built, and was Sears 75 th anniverasary machine..So guys, what are YOU looking for!??

Obviously for me its old hoovers.

But the 2 that I fall for every time, is hands down, in my mind the two most gorgeous home appliances in history...

The hoover 825, and 925 commercial.

The streamlined, waterfalling badge and lighting emblem of the 825, and the beautiful wings of the 925.

The 150 is in close 3rd.

Hey Hans! I just couldn't resist this one! I'd love an Apex Strato.I have the Dyno and the Aero. I'd also like a Hoover Constellation in red and white, and a Hoover Constellation in lime green and taupe. Last but not least, my ultimate Holy Grail vacuum would be the G.E. Swivel-Top Model C-100 with power nozzle. I feel for that one like you do the Lady Kenmore Hans! Later, Trg

I am LUSTING after

Shemar Moore.

Ooops.  Wrong subject.

There are really only two vintage vacuums that I am lusting after:  a mint condition Electrolux Automatic F and a mint condtion Electrolux tan Model G.  I have a turquoise Model G already and need the tan.

Recently a Model F came up on EBAY and I waited too long to bid.  I hope someone in this Club won that machine.

Can anyone in this Club help me find a Model F?????

A good day to all,

Richard

There is one vacuum I would definetly trade anything for and thats a General Electric Canister Vacuum, from the 1940's. I am not sure of the model number but my mother had one before our Rotomatic. It was a grey bullet type, with General Electric down both sides of the vacuum, no wheels, no sled, it was curled up feet on both ends. I loved that vacuum and would giveanything to have another.

There aren't many machines I lust for. It's just not my thing, but.....

There are a couple I would LOVE to own that I have only seen fleeting glympses of and NEVER one in person:

Air-Way Dirtmaster

Kenmore Imperial "bug eye" upright

Here Goes....

First and foremost, an MIB Compact C-6 with the PN. Don't want much, do I? Oh, and a Polish-Aire AND a Magic Disc.

An Electrolux Model T, the "Thrift" model.

An Electrolux Model AF with the PN-1.

A mid-to-late-'60s Sears Best Kenmore in the blue color (this is the one with the "fishmouth" opening to put the tools in), with the Powermate.

A really minty Royal hand vac and an extra NOS bag.

And a turquoise radiator brush attachment for an Electrolux crevice tool, and a late Electrolux white-bristled dusting brush and a late Electrolux white-bristled wall brush. Oh, and a turquoise Electrolux tool caddy from Canada (Aeoliandave, are you listening?). Or two.

vacuums you lust after

I would really like to find a GE u7 Deluxe upright from the 60's with the chrome tool set, complete and running. I am kind of odd that I really don't collect, but I have had a lot of vacs through the years that I just wanted to try to see how they worked, and then sold them or donated them. The GE would be a keeper

Ben, your  recollection of those 'curled up feet' got my attention. Did they look something like this?

Picture is from the files of Doug Smith but I have this same all chrome GE model (somewhat inaccessible at the moment) and in fact there are four individual curly-cue shapes spot-welded to curved flat-strap braces riveted to the body.

The General Electric logo runs down the red strap handle; the body is gleaming heavy gauge plated steel with no embossing or other embellishment. Obviously a stylish TOL model I have no doubt there was a painted entry level model in brown or gray (?)

Sandy, as far as I know Turquoise was not a Canadian color in Electrolux vacuums or accessories nor caddys. There was a red inked folded double compartment cardboard one for the red 80 series and then the plastic bucket type was introduced for the 87 and 89 in a a pale lime green. This bucket type was continued for many years in pinkish-tan, rich brown and off white to match the respective plastic body Can-luxs.

Resident guru Doug can confirm and expand on this for us.

Dave

lust after......well.....

you can never have too many 60's/70's eureka uprights or 70's kenmore "woodys" lol, but what I really want is a couple of pairs of SQUARE end caps and the retainer screws for a 12 inch vibra groomer II. I've looked everywhere, and I just can't find them. If anybody can come up with some, I'll gladly buy them.

Post# 168784 , Reply# 28   2/8/2012 at 01:22 (4,454 days old) by massagemiracle ()

Oh Dave that G.E. is beautiful!  That is so close to what we once had. Except the hose had the what I called the plunger piece that fit against the front of the vacuum and helped to create a seal against the connection.

And it had the "General Electric" name running down the sides!  Same tools, Same legs, everything!

Its just beautiful!

The one pictured !

Is older, it has a screw type hose connection, similar to an Apex, you turn the knurled area and the rubber ring swells up and holds it into the cleaner, the next generation had a rubber cuff with a pushbutton type thing, this was used thru the first swiveltops.

the body mold seems to be identical with the one posted earlier and it has the same hose. It just has a full lenght top instead of the handle and the feet are different. I am not familiar with GE vacuums but it seems to be within the same line and probably within a year or two.

The fabled last GE tank, the AVT-815. I was tempted to take Fred's to my room but settled for cuddling up next to it in the diningroom. LOL I luv this GE and it is definitely on my wish list.

I thought you had one, Hans but now I think it is someone else here who has one tucked under a table or shelf unit loaded with other vintage treasures - I remember the picture thread and the bronze 815 fairly leapt out at me at the time.

Here's another picture of one from Doug Smith's late lamented site. Oh, how we miss your site, Doug!

Note the gray tool squarish styling of the mid 50s GE Swiveltop canisters, the same tool set in turquoise Cycolac came with the first R-1 Roll-Easy. The second generation R-1 featured the newly designed 'ribbed' tools.

But no flip-over floor/carpet nozzle for the 815...

Now I'll have to find a nice MIB Compact to make up for the missing box.

For me it would be:
Hoover 150 ensemble
Hoover Convertible 68 all original
Hoover Convertible 704-01
Any Penncrest/JCPenney badged Hoovers, especially the cord reel uprights
would do almost anything to have a NIB metal base Convertible
would love an early Convertible tool set with the ultraflex hose and cardboard caddy.

Speaking of GE . . .

There is one canister that I have only seen once. Back in the very early 1960s General Electric came out with a canister just like the green and chrome "Cord-reel Cleaner" we came to know so well.

This machine however bore a bronze or copper-toned lid and base but the same chrome upper portion as the green model. What was unique about this specific vac was that it was the first GE can to have a power nozzle. Not that that there were that many power nozzles on canisters at the time to make comparisons with, this model's PN was original by way of design.

I am assuming it disappeared because it just didn't take off on in the market. It was a good while -- years -- before I saw a try at the idea by GE -- without that specific PN. I have forgotten the model number and only know the brand and that saw it in the vacuum department at Strawbridge & Clothier in Philadelphia. I have never seen or heard of it since. That's a machine I'd love to find now in mint condition.

First - believe it or not - one of those General Electric cyclinder vacs! But it needs to be the exact one: Light brown tools and hose with a light brown main body and dark brown ends. It looked very similar to the one picture here:

If the GE that is red and with the chrome end were grey that would be ours. Remember if anyone has one to trade, I have a Constellation 86 !!

Then of course, I would die to have my beloved turquoise Eureka Automatic Upright again - I think it was model 260. I would want the full set of tools too - in the matching turquoise cardboard carrier.

The specific version of the Automatic would have to be a 1959 model which has the earlier Eureka graphic on the bag: A small vertical rectangle with the "curvey E" at the top and the word 'Automatic" running downward in the rectangle. The vac looks very, very similar to the one shown in this display (Letter "M"), except the headlight frame was silver, not the 1957 anniversary gold colour:

And finally, to round out my ideal fantasy recreation of my childhood vacuum world, I would love to have a dark green General Electric floor polisher, circa late 1950's! It would have to have the words "General Electric" on the front of the motor hood, not on the top or on the top corner edge. Grey rubber handle grip and dark green matching cord, with cooling vents on either side of the main motor hood.

I remember that the lamb's wool buffing pads had snaps which had the GE logo on them!

Eurekaprince,

I think the GE polisher you describe is the same one that my mom had when I was growing up. It was still in the house when we cleaned it out after she died in 2001. I have no idea what happened to it.

Hey Gary - so cool that you had the same polisher! And we were born only 2 days apart, remember?

I have to plan to come up and visit you (and the Eureka Upright) one weekend! Would love to test drive that beautiful Eureka Empress II FastVac!

Have a great weekend!

Almost Complete!

hygiene903's profile picture
I already have most of the vacuums I want and then some, but there are a few I'm still looking for. They include a Hoover 150, AirWay 66, Silver King (don't know what model number, but it MUST be a green one), Westinghouse tank, Westinghouse big wheel canister, Galaxy Prestige 990, and a pre-war Electro-Hygiene tank. Don't know the model number of the EH tank, but it looks similar to a Royalaire 186, except that it would be blue and have the exclusive EH crystal chamber on the front cover.
However, I'm not in any big hurry on any of these, as I need to "thin the herd" before I add anything. Might be willing to make a trade, though.
Jeff

A couple that I have been looking for forever...

would be the elusive Hoover Model 27, for sure, and also a Hoover Model 60. Seems like I have never seen any pictures of a 27 "in the flesh", even on here!

@hygiene903:

Before I email you, I must mention that I am not a paid member of the VCCC, therefore, I am not allowed to purchase them directly through the VCCC. Which models do you have, and could you post some pictures of them please? Thank you!

Also, if you have any Eureka or Kirby Uprights, I would like to see pictures of them too, in addition to the Hoovers.

I will Post a Thread for you later, I am actually doing some Work to the Turquoise Eureka right now... ;-) Like most Blender Motor Eurekas, the Hood Rattles when the Beater-Bars hit the Carpeting and because it Annoys me, lol, I'm trying to Fix that, but like I said, it Runs like NEW, just used it actually in my Kitchen... ;-) If you want to see it right now, look up my same Name here on YouTube and you'll see a Video of it Running and all!! :-D The other Eureka is in a Box in my Basement, lol, so I may not get the Photos up till Tomorrow.

I will at least get Pictures Posted for you of the Turquoise Eureka, but I have to wait till my Mom goes to Work before I'll have time to take and Post Pictures of it and you may have to wait a Day or so for Pictures of the Blue and White Eureka, because I Dismantled it in my Basement, lost some of it's Parts, lol and have to Clean it a bit first, but I'll get up Pics of at least one Tonight and I have to Ship them both separate anyway, so if you want the Turquoise one, you can Buy or Trade me something for it now, I'll send it and when I get Pics up of the other one, if you want that one as well, then it will be sent to you... ;-)

I'm not gonna do like most ebay A-Holes and try to stuff both in one Box to save on Shipping, believe me, ebay Sellers have done that to me and it never ends well. :-(

Did anybody who posted in this thread get what they wanted?

tazcatsdad's profile picture

I certainly did ... or at least one of them!  I'm still looking for the Eureka 1212 or its Panasonic counterparts and either a Westy or Sunbeam Twin Fan (passed on the Westy that was on eBay recently 'cuz it looked to me like it needed too much work -- and time is NOT something I have plenty of!), but I did find the Electrolux that I was looking for.

I found a PowerSystem model Z1720, complete with both the bagless cassette and the regular bag compartment door which lets the machine be used either way.  In the picture below, it is shown with the bag door in place.
