No, not the hats, but the filters!

I got an Air-Way 77 for my birthday from Toby! I LOVE it! I am in the process of COMPLETELY (yes, all the way!) restoring it! I am trying to find that hammertone green paint and a place to rechrome the rails. I have polished up the aluminum and the circular plastic nameplate surrounding the dome. The dome has two dents in it, but I can't seem to get into that dome any further as the piece that holds the hose locking mechanism is pressed-fitted into the dome. If anyone can give me any insight on this, that'd be greatly appreciated!

When I tore the vacuum down completely, I found a cloth bonnet over the motor exhaust to filter out the carbon dust. I was very intrigued that it was still here! My 88 Mk. II doesn't have this, I don't think. Anyways...I was talking to my mom about how I could make one. She showed me, and it turned out perfect! It is a great fit, and even looks great! I use a fairly lightweight felt for this filter. It appears that it would have better filtration than the old one. I sure hope it doesn't lower the suction, though...With my new sewing machine (Sears/Roebuck Franklin Rotary, a rebranded White class FR), I stitched it up and used the existing pull string. I will get pictures later. If anyone needs some of these made for any machines, I am thinking about opening up a little business for making these. I believe the Hoover Constellation had one of these? I am guessing that my bonnet can be machined washed.

If anyone needs these made (for a small fee), please email me and be prepared to send me the old bonnet so I can take measurements. I am also thinking about getting into making bags, such as Kirby, but I will also need an existing bag. Just let me know!

Thanks everyone!

Sincerely,

Kyle O.

Thanks Chris! I made it to the original specifications, except the fabric, but I came pretty close to it! Now let's hope it works like the original! :-)

Kyle

You are getting to be pretty good on that sewing machine. Mine has been getting use lately. Making curtains for my vacuum display room.

Thanks Marty! My friend Jason is going to be sending me some very old vacuum bags, like a Kirby C bag and another bag, I think he said an Ohio...But anyways. I am going to try and make those AND do the silk-screening! We'll see how it goes!

Good luck with those curtains!
