Hi all,
I've been looking for the following:
Shelton Wet/Dry Jet Vac
Shop-Vac Wet/Dry Vacuum
- circa 1970s
- NEW or used

Has anyone ever seen one of these for sale? I wonder how hard it is to come by.

If you know of any for sale, please let me know.

Thanks,
Hazel

I've seen two 1970s shop vacs. One is at my local Habitat Restore. It's a metal drum with wheels and is dark green. It has blower and suction ports on top of the drum and a big hose. Toggle switch and non-grounded cord. It says Super Vac on the side and was made in Hackensack NJ by Shop Vac.

My grandparents also have a red metal one with a plastic top/motor housing. Suction/blower ports on the front. It had a plastic dolley but it broke as well as the hose. That one is branded Montgomery Ward.

Thanks for the info! Its good to hear that you've seen a couple. Those sound close to what I'm looking for but not exactly. Just curious, in which city is the Habitat Restore located?

More info on what I'm looking for:
SHELTON WET/DRY JET VAC
- 1970s (1975?)
- 5, 10 or 15 gallon canister
- white canister with stripes, says "WET DRY"

SHOP-VAC WET/DRY VACUUM
- 1970s
- blue and white canister, says "wet dry vac" and "shop vac"

I think someone on here has the blue and white Shop Vac. Maybe they can post a photo.

The Habitat Restore is in central Florida. Maybe there's one in your area. They seem to be the best for old vacuums, at least here. Also I saw a metal blue/white shop vac tank there the other day but it was just the tank, no top or wheels.

Vacuum as art?

If you look at the early work of Jeff Koons if a Shop Vac is in a plexiglass box it becomes museum quality art.(Also Hoover)

fan-of-fans, thanks for the info. I'll have to check out the Habitat Restore.

rugsucker, yeah whenever I look these up online i see the koons work and not much else.

Is this the Shop Vac you are looking for?

My folks bought this in 1976 or maybe 1975.

Jet Vac 40 needs filter

Hello, the THENEWDELUXE.
Are you still looking for that Jet Vac 40? I have one,,,& I still use it!
Matter of fact, that's why I joined this forum.
I've been search all over for replacement filters that fit a Jet Vac 40, 5gal canister.
Most of the Ebay filters are listed by SN,,, but no one supplies the Measurements!??

The filter that I need is 6-1/2"H x 7-1/4"w, with a 5-3/4" inside opening on top. Enclosed Metal bottom.
I sure hope that I can find some replacement filters,,,,or the part number.
lol, I can see through this old one!

Wasn't...

Shop Vac an actual brand name like Skil Saws? And then everyone just started calling them all 'Shop Vacs? I think I have an original 'Shop Vac, but it's entirely a plastic affair from the  80's. I'd burn up the motor and get another from the factory. Then they quit making the motors for my model.

I sure like the look of the older metal tank ones.

Kevin

@kevin ... yes, Shop-Vac is a brand name of Shop-Vac Corporation.

@doboy & eggerskf ...

The Jet Vac looks very similar to my Pow-r-Vac made by Walton Products, Inc/Central Quality Industries (which has gone out of business). I have a filter product # from the packaging I saved, but it's in one of my many boxes in storage. I'm unable to look for it anytime soon.

Several years ago, I contacted Genie Home Products, but it couldn't provide any information on the Pow-r-Vac. I just sent the company another email requesting information on the Jet Vac and will let you know if I get the product # for the filter.

Here's the response I received from The Genie Company:

"The filters are no longer available, nor do I have a list of these.

"I do know that some people have been able to find the filters on a website called cleanstream.com. [part # 09096, $26.99 w/free shipping - The filter listed replaces Shop-Vac® Filters 903-04-00, 903-33-00, 903-34-00, 903-40-00, 903-50-00 and 903-90-00 and Genie series (PB, PH, PSH, 2000, 3000, 4000) and Black & Decker(R) Utility Vacuums (UV800B & UV1000B). GORE™ CleanStream® Filters trap dirt on the surface – just tap or rinse to clean – dirt and debris is removed from the filter. Filters pick up either wet or dry – no need to remove filter when used for water leaks, wet basement, plumbing emergencies and spills. Available with HEPA Filtration (99.97% efficient at 0.3 microns) or High Efficiency Filtration (99.7% efficient at 0.3 microns).]

You can also use the Emerson MultiFit [cartridge] filters [sic; VF2006 - HEPA, VF2007 - Standard], however, you will need to know the gallon size. And the Eureka Shop Boss [sic; 2800 series wet/dry Paper Filter] also works with most of our models (model #54775)[Filter Cage #15185119N]."
