instead of one click at a time it slams to the ground unless bearly touched instead of normal foot pressure. i tried greasing the track and that only helped very briefly. i looked at the ratchet track and toe lever/spring and it engauged by hand when the axle assembly is taken apart. is there a way to rememdy this without buying a whole new axle assembly ?

Yep, try replacing the button with a known good one, and if that doesn't work, buy a used-but-good axle assembly...

The ratchet on some models wore out faster than others, so they ended up dropping down to the floor, thus you either replace or put up with the problem, the easiest solution is to replace than to mess about with it when you're not sure of what you're doing...

my friend just said the same thing replace the toe ratchet, not the axle. and it should fix up the issue. i figured that it was going to need to be replaced, than being able to fix it.

at least i know i can replace just the one part by ,itself and not the whole damn axle assembly with it as that is fine.

You can try taking the wheel/axel assy. off the machine and completely getting all the grease out of the gears on both the axel part and the toe touch part, use a toothpick to thouroughly get it out from the corners, use a volitile degreaser also, clean the grease out of the spring too, reassemble it and it should work, if it dosen't it's time for a new ratchet.
