Your Hoover Special model 700 has a rebuild date stamped in the bottom of the cleaner. Look for a month and a year (i.e. 3 47 March 1947). I bet it is a 1940s postwar rebuild. Nice machine and it includes the added headlight too! Great looking vacuum shop. Can you imagine the machines that must have come through that shop over the years? Thanks for the pics!

These were fairly popular as I have seen a number of them. I think that it is neat that yours was rebuilt when it was 14 years old or so. In the 1950's they did away with this program and introduced cheaper new cleaners. It was too hard to have all of those various parts, instructions, cleaning tool kits etc. You have a gem there! Enjoy it.
