Hi,
I am a new member. I would like to know if anyone knows if GE made any uprights in the 1950s? My parents had one from 1948, but I only ever see canisters from the 50's. Then in the early 60's they seemed to reappear. I would love to get my hands on a U7 with deluxe chrome tool set.

Also, I am still confused about the diffeerance between a Premier and a GE. Who made what, since they were so similiar.

Hi John -

Welcome to our lil' ol' forum.

We have several GE enthusiasts in this group with more knowledge than I who can speak to specifics. GE DID make uprights in the 50's, but nowhere near as many as they did of canisters and tanks. I have a list that Marc Turbyfill (one of our members in Spokane) published in one of our older newsletters. The list compiles models and their END YEARS of manufacture. Unfortunately, the list does not state when they started to manufacture each of these models. If I recall correctly, the list was compiled in 1961. Since it is an Adobe file, I can't attach it here.

Send me your email address to figtree632@gmail.com and I will send it to you. I also have one for Premier, too. As to the Premier/GE relationship, someone more knowledgable than me needs to tell you about the history of how the two ended up as one.
