Has anyone got the official colour lists of Hoover Junior and senior models?
From research i have come up with

Swedish green and smoked pine - 652A - 6525A
Jonquil and hop green - 1334A 652
Mandarin and ivory - 1354 - 1354A
Light and deep seal griege - 1346

Any corrections or additions most welcome

Thanks in advance

Mark

I was waiting for others with more detailed knowledge to reply, but as there have not been any takers here are my thoughts:

I presume you want just from 1334 & 652 models onwards, although there were Juniors and Seniors before them - the Junior starts at 1935 (370) and the Senior in 1950 (612)

Sorry, I dont know the exact numbers or colour names

Junior/Senior Pink & White
Junior/Senior Grey & White
Junior/Senior Jonquil and Hop Green
Junior/Senior Smoke Pine & Swedish Green (short lived on the Junior I think)
Junior 1334E That was a bit of everything - apparently they were clearing inventory as it is a mixture of green & grey parts
Junior 1346 & 1346A Pumpkin & Seal Griege
Junior 1354/A 6525C & E Blue & White
Junior 1346A Jade Green & White
Junior 1346A Blue & White

It starts to get a bit complicated at this point because a lot of colour variations start to appear as exclusives both in the Senior & Junior ranges, and some of these are actually rather nicer than the somewhat bland Blue/White, the Lavender coloured Junior 1346A or another in a very attractive shade of green. And the colours are not consistant across all territories either - so the US had the rather attractive 1348 - we never had anything like that. Germany had a white & yellow 1354 - really there is no end to the variations and it is not helped with hard bag versions of the Junior 1346 & 1012 which were exclusives.

Senior Ranger 4002 Yellow & White
Senior Ranger 4014 Mid green/light green
Senior Ranger (Exclusive) Cream/cream - brown bag
Senior Ranger (Exclusive) Red/Grey
Senior 4186 Brown/cream
Powerplus Standard Grey
Powerplus Dustcup Burgandy/Cream

There were also commercial versions of all styles of seniors & rangers

Junior 1012 Cream & Yellow
Junior 1016 Cream & Brown
Junior 1036 Mustard
Junior 1104 Cream/Brown
Junior 1104 Grey/Mid blue
Junior 1104 Grey Black
Junior 1040 (Exclusive) Coffee/Brown
There may be another "headlight" Junior exclusive in cream/cream to match the exclusive Ranger

There were also the Junior Compact (Hard bag) which were in Cream/Brown and later Cream only - with and without royal coat of arms.

I will not go into the Starlight/Junior Deluxe series as I dont consider these "proper" Juniors. This is not a definative list, just what I can remember. I will say that if you want every varient of Junior and Senior you are going to need a lot of time, space and money because there are just so many of them.

Hope this helps

Al

There was definatly a two tone purple one, and I think two tone yellow (I have brochure scans at home). They were the TOL versions. The green one shown above is MOL and if the German colours were the same as ours then the 4002 shown is actually orange & cream rather than red - I have one of those, and actually the later all red model too. All the other Freedom models have, so far, eluded me.

When I get home I will post the scan

Al

Hi Mark,

Alistair has covered a lot, but here's a couple more bits of info that I'm aware of regarding the machines you want to know about:

The pink versions the 652 and 1334 were officially Rose and white, the grey versions Light and medium grey. The pale blue used from 1968-76 was Mandarin blue, got these all from my service manual, so they're official. The darker blue of the 1346A was described as Dolphin Blue in a 70s catalogue that also mentioned mandarin for the other models, so presumably that was also official.

As Al says, there were other foreign variants, and several exclusives. Incidentally, not all machines changed colour at the same time - the first Mandarin cleaner was the 1124 Convertible in March 1968, but the Constellation didn't use that shade until c. January 1972!

Mick, there was a dark blue Freedom - it was a Challenge branded exclusive model for Great Universal catalogue, sold alongside the lilac 'Challenge' Junior 1346A in the late 70s. Might have a picture of it, but it's buried deep in my hard drive!

Simon

Thanks Simon that has helped a lot. i think my blue 1346A is dolphin blue.
I should have said that it was only UK machines i was looking for.

Yes, in the UK the only blue the 1346A came in was Dolphin, umless anyone knows better... Oddly, in Australia their version of the 1346A, which was known as the Lark, came in Mandarin blue!

Glad to be of help, I've learnt a lot from fellow collectors too!

There is a 1346A blue on Ebay right now but look at this added description.

UPDATED INFORMATION: Model 1346A was launched in 1970, styled in ocean green. This particular colour, midnight blue, was made 1972-75. The 204 in the serial number represents April 1972 (date of manufacture). The handle dismantles if you need to pack cleaner for collection. I hope this further information is of help.

Jade Green and Midnight blue???

Well I was doing it from memory and also that I did not know the exact names - remind me next time not to spend 15 minutes of my life composing a reply ........

Anyway, moving on ....

Later Freedoms

vacbear58's profile picture
From 1977 (the previous was 1975), the range has been rationalised - although hardly much to make them "new"

& 1981

vacbear58's profile picture
The basic machine remains more or less the same, but the TOL has had some design improvements - I think this is the machine Mick has - very rare although it actually carried on to 1986

A small selection - and yes i know there is a Lark in there, but it is close enough to be a variant

Some rare ones

vacbear58's profile picture
Note the very early 1346 with pumpkin cover, later it was brown. The green one was an exclusive. The one in the foreground is the rare 1016 - the last "regular line" dirt searcher, although later model had headlights they were all exclusives

@ Vacbear i think you took my reply in the wrong way i was just pointing out a description on Ebay and it was different information again just adding to the confusion so to speak.
I was tempted to contact the seller and ask where they got the information from.
