I'm starting to scan my JcPenney catalog vacuums.

I'll start with the earliest, 1994 Fall & Winter

6 I forgot Eureka made a Mighty Mite Plus between the original and the II. Also I remember going in a thrift store once and seeing both of those Hoover canisters right next to each other. I wondered if someone had owned both.

Is that Capture Dry Carpet Cleaning System in photo #7 really an Iona Fantom in disguise? Could it be used as a conventional vacuum cleaner?

Hershel, it cannot be used as a regular vacuum. It was made by the same company as a separate machine.... no disguise necessary :o)

Cole, thank you for taking the time to post these. I shared some from a 1996 JC Penny catalog a few months ago, so I know how much work it is to scan these big cagalogs and share them. I enjoyed seeing vacuums from my childhood! When I posted, I put the images right here on the forum so people didn't have to keep clicking different links, and it worked well...

Thanks again for sharing, that was fun to see. I guess that those ads pre-dated the Eureka Victory style machines.

Why couldn't it be used as a conventional vacuum cleaner? It was made to agitate the dry cleaning powder into carpets, and then suck it up. If it can clean up that, it can clean up dirt right?

Thanks for those scans.. always like seeing old catalogs. It reminded me that I do have one of those green Hoover Legacy's hidden away upstairs in a closet. Maybe I should dig it out and give it a run, been awhile.

the Capture "vacuum" doesn't have a HEPA or other filters-just designed to dispense, work in,and to pick up the spent Capture carpet cleaner powder.

Thank you SOOOOO much for scanning these pages, Cole!

I bought the red Eureka World Vac (link 6) when Consumer Reports rated it as the top canister in 1993! Loved that vac - was so easy to use and I thought having a great Eureka bare floor brush right on-board was a blessing!!!!

I wanted to buy that black $60 Eureka Superbroom Stick-vac - A Eureka "Electrikbroom" with a dust cup! It had great wheels which allowed the action end of the nozzle to float without any pressure coming down from the user's arm.....

Thanks for the memories.... :-)

I'm not sure why that Capture dry cleaner couldn't be used as a regular vacuum, but the catalog says it cannot. Notice it only has 5.5 amps, which was half that of the 11 amp Fantom. It also appears in my 1992 Sears catalog, though it's a less streamlined design.

The Eureka Victories indeed came out later. I have the 1997 JcPenney as well and it has them. I don't think there's any in the 1995. I will post them later. I thought the red World Vac canister was neat, but wanted it to have a quick release power nozzle.

The Capture machine has a cyclone assembly like a Fantom-but---ITS A DIRECT AIR machine-the Capture powder goes thru the fan before going into the bin.The selector switch on the handle shuts off the vacuum fan intake when you have set for "dispense" or work in the powder. For pickup-the selector opens the fan intake. With these units-you do have to wait the full period for the Capture powder to dry-otherwise the fan intake and shutter get clogged.
