Found this in a dumpster behind a vacuum shop by my house - the only thing I could find wrong with it is that one of the electrical connector prongs where the hose plugs into the tank is corroded - seems to work great! It says its a model 4500.

three prongs where it plugs into the tank, but two at the nozzle?

works great, but smelled a bit like dog. I've ordered new bags and a filter.

i kind of want to remove the tool caddy - I think it would look much cleaner as just a "tank". The caddy is riveted on and I'm not sure how easy it would be to re-attach the handle and power switch.

"three prongs where it plugs into the tank, but two at t

Hmmmmmm, let me think about that one, three prongs at the motor, going up the hose, then a set of electric controls, then 2 prongs at the nozzle, that's a really hard one to work out..........

(yeah, sarcasm, it's great ain't it? :P )

I'd replace that pigtail with a new one, that damaged pin looks like it's been arcing rather than corroding, could even have a damaged socket too, so time for fixy fixy to make it safe, otherwise you've got a fire on your hands...

It will not sell as well - or at all  to the knowledgeable - without the tool saddle. The blue tools are plentiful to come by.

These little variable speed Ponys are fantastic all purpose cylinder vacuums.

The blue and the red ones are the ones I loan out while I fix folk's household machines. They are bulletproof reliable and I snap up every one I find. Quiet, powerful and the long hose is a bonus - makes ya wonder why all hoses aren't this long.

To replace that pigtail, will I need a special tool or is it a"cut and solder" kind of a job? Who is a good source for Royal parts? Hesco?

-After thinking about the 3 - 2 prong comment, I realized my mistake...

As far as taking the taking the tool saddle off, it just seems to me that there's a beautiful metal tank under all that plastic...It seems kind of like putting a turtle neck on an Electrolux XXX. I don't know if I would be able to take that saddle off without damaging it just to have a look?

oh, and I read it wrong - it's a model 4600.

Wow what a great find , If it was mine and I was going to keep it I would remove the tool caddy aswell, shouldn't be that difficult but I think it would look better without it, however if your going to sell it then as dave says keep the caddy. I don't think it would sell well or easily without the caddy either.

Send me an email, I'm a Royal dealer and will see who has parts for you. I seriously doubt you will find any online as most of those parts are NLA. We have a good many sitting around in the shop that are NOS.

There ended up being a good looking vacuum under all that "baggage"!

That looks great , did you use a different camera to take the last pic as the blue looks to be a different hue.

I'd guess it's more lighting conditions, low electric light versus sun-powered daylight, makes a massive difference in colour temperatures and hues with most cameras on default settings... :)

Same camera (iPhone) - different light and no plastic tool caddy in the way.

Is there any way you could take a picture of the manufacturers tag on the bottom and post it. I believe that I have that exact same model but hard to be 100% when the tag isn't? Best vacuum I've ever used, nothing matches it's power. Picked up my claw hammer.

re; 3 prongs

at the hose, 2 at the power nozzle. This is to allow for the headlight to be on, but not the nozzle for bare floor cleaning. However, your nozzle is not so equipped. Eureka used this feature on it's Express canisters.

Vacerator, I think you have it a little backwards.

3 prongs on power head wire to hose and 2 prongs going into the suction unit from the hose, that is headlight always on control so that power nozzle motor can be shut down. Hoover PowerMax, Windtunnel canisters did this, along with Eureka Express.

2 prongs on power head, 3 prongs going into suction unit, is full machine on/ off control on gas pump handle!! This is the general standard wiring scheme for Kenmore, Panasonic, this Royal and Hoover canisters that had on/off switches on gas pump handle for entire machine!

Right Rob!

I guess that's what I meant to say. You're the power team expert around here. Only my 8290 Eureka Express does that. I never use it. It's loud, and no hepa. I use the power nozzle on my C/V.
