i took apart my convertible 1076 tonite to fix the flickering headlight bulb. i sanded the bulb contacts, and the contact recepticles, but when i turned the vac on, the bulb still doesn't have a constant voltage. it still flickers between on and slightly less bright (not totally off and on flicker). what else could be wrong? the bulb looks in good shape and not burning out. i want to weed out other possibilities before replacing the bulb, they are not cheap.

Sounds like a loose wire to me...

Could even be the bulb, I've had iffy bulbs flicker because of a poor connection within the glass, the only test for that is substitution, and 15-25 Watt appliance bulbs aren't that expensive, you're just going to the wrong place to buy them... :P

Bulbs..

I agree, sounds like a bad bulb, and my local hardware store sells them for like 2 bucks.

Just look/ask for "Appliance Bulbs", they're everywhere, both in 15 and 25w form... :)

They are getting harder to find...Lowes still carries them and so does Mennards.

Is there an ebay version of "Let me google that for you"? 1 minute of looking and hey presto, 8x 15w appliance bulbs, $12 (S&H depends on your location though), keep a few as spares, sell the rest on:

You can also ...

... find good bulbs reasonably priced at Hesco (www.hescoinc.com...) and in the sewing machine section at Jo-Ann Fabrics (or any store that specializes in sewing machines, crafts, notions, and such).

It IS harder to get the "bayonet" type.  Lowe's has them.  Remember to get the lower wattage,  so as not to "melt" your lens.  Happy Hoovering!

Check the brush carbons for erratic voltage.
