I was fortunate to have found a Rainbow E2 type 12 on Craig's List. I bought it from an elderly woman whose little Rover chewed the cord almost to the body of the machine. She simply wanted to get rid the vacuum. I paid her $150.00 for it. All it needed was a new cord. Now it's in like new condition. My problem is that I'm not sure what the 2nd or low speed is for. I found a PDF copy of the manual on the internet; however it does not say much about the low speed. Can someone explain what that speed is for?  Although the image below is not my machine it is the same model as mine.

Thanks

Michael

Do you know if that feature actually works & do you leave the machine on without the attachments

You take the hose off for air purification and turn it on low.

Calling all Rainbow

The Rainbow has certification from AHAM and of course the Asthma and Alllergy Foundation of America.

I use the low speed to clean the air in my kitchen after meals. I have been told it is very useful if someone is a smoker. Since water is a natural odor absorber it will turn the water yellow from the smoke.

I was told with the advanced Hurricane brush les motor it can run 24/7 without harm.

Does low speed really work?

Yes it does! I use my Grandmum's Rainbow on low speed all the time and it works so well. She has four dogs and the dander and even dog hair it gets out of the air is amazing! We vacuum first and then use the air purifier and use the scents in it and it works so good!!! So yeah! :P

Thank you all for your very helpful information.  I feel much better about using the machine in our bedroom in the evening.

cadr is limited for Rainbow

If you compare Rainbow to traditional air purifiers, the clean air delivery rate (CADR) is really low for a Rainbow. It's equivalent to a small air cleaner.
However, it is nice for aromatherapy.

That's true. But that low rate is for low speed. One can start on high speed to do the bulk of cleaning which is MANY TIMES more powerful, then switch to low to "maintain".

It's just another reason I'd love to get the new one. My aunt bought one, and she constantly raves about it, even a couple months later. Now she wants to pick up a Rainmate for her bedroom.

Rainbow's are a very cool vacuum, I just don't like having to throw out the water everytime, clean the bottom of the vac and the water container, separate them all out till they are dry.

I just like hitting the cord reel and be done with it. But I would never put down anyone who wants one! To each his own!! And I do like Rainbow's!

I have the new Rainbow E2B vacuum--its a fun machine to use-but the bin filling and emptying can get old.It is neat to see what it picked up--some surprizing things in the bin!The lighted water-dirt bin is neat-you see the water get dustier as you use the vacuum.

I have had the 2 Speed Gold a little over 5 years

I think they are great and very reliable. I never use the low speed air clean on mine though.
