I'm thinking of trying one on my rainbow...

I'd say the one that came with the rather rare 240V Tristar CXL and DXL models, but they're hard to find...

I don't think there are any commercially available PNs in the UK that are better than the one you have for your Rainbow, you'd need to look at US models and convert them to 240v... :\

How do I go about converting? The one that comes with the rainbow is naff !! It leaks air in all over, it's bug and numb and vibrates like a son of a *****..

Well, basic Eureka-style PNs (including the Tristar ones) are easy to convert, you just replace the motor, and that's it, but you have to make sure you get the right motor otherwise the shaft is too short and the belts end up slipping off too easily, as I found with the motors I've used...

Infact, the motor in my Tristar PN actually came from a Rainbow D4C PN, came over from the states from a Rainbow that had been taken over there from the UK, so that motor has many thousands of miles on the clock, and it's just 2 wires... :)

I don't know about how it'd work for your Rainbow E series though, I know of someone who modified theirs, but I don't know the ins & outs of what they did, so I couldn't say for sure... :\

Have you got a pic of the tristars PN? I am curious to see what it looks like! If I was to import, I think I would go for a Hoover wind tunnel PN, I like a bit of windtunnel! :D

Haven't got a pic to hand, but I do have a video of it in action:
