So there's been some discussion about this particular item, both on VacuumLand, and off-line with other Hoover enthusiasts... While I didn't doubt it actually existed as a genuine Hoover part, I had never seen one in person, nor had I ever seen any literature from Hoover actually promoting this item. But now this is about as solid of evidence as it comes!

Presenting the Model 82 Constellation wheeled dolly!

And a HUGE thank you to our friend and fellow estate-sale goer, Gary.... he can sniff out the most obscure things.

And.....

1005 W Franklin Ave does still exist! I think it's the second or third door from the left. Fabulous building.

Holy cow, that's fabulicious, Fred!
Couldn't have gone to a finer home.
(other than a house in North Canton or Pittston, that is).

Cool find!!

Fred, I knew these existed. I was once trying to bid on one on ebay and of course I was outbid. Sometime later I learned that fellow California collector Kyle M. has one in the box. Although he wasn't the one who outbid me, LOL!

I used to have a Constellation 82 with the dolly like the one Fred just got. I didn't know it was so rare. I found it at an estate sale in Wichita, Kansas. I also saw one when I went to the convention in Ohio. I guess I should have kept it.

Congrats Fred,

What a fabulous find! Do you have any idea of how many of these carts were produced?

Wow what an interesting piece I am surprised that they weren't more popular back in the day thanks. Zach

I don't think that in the history of the Constaliation that there has ever been a problem with the floor and furniture being scratched up. It is a cool find. Congratulations!!!!

Fabulous Find Fred

As a kid, our neighbors across the street had that very wheeled dolly under their 82.  Always loved that machine.  Very powerful and with the dolly, very portable.  I recreated the same thing (although not original by any means) with a Filter Queen Princess dolly.

In a similar vein...
I hardly ever play on eBay anymore unless it is something so desirable and reasonable I can't resist.
This manual for the Mulberry Model 84 was just sitting unmolested on eBay with no bidders, so I did and won it tonight for $10.
The seller Peter wrote me, after I explained I'd been looking for one for ages:

"Hi Dave, I'm happy that the brochure has found a home and that I didn't throw it away. I used my constellation for about 20 years as a shop vac and got a new shop vac probably about 10 years ago. I was cleaning out my desk and ran across the brochure. It is in good shape, I hope that you like it! Thank you and take care, Peter"

This will complete my Canadian NIB Model 841 (even tho is is undoubtedly a USA manual) that was made in Burlington and sold through EATONS in Winnipeg.

Big Fred! Brilliant idea that never occurred to me.

Now if I could just find an unmolested Model 82 Manual, the round one...
I have a second Canadian 82 in primo condition with the original blue hose & tools that is not in the picture, but again, no manual. :-(

Dave

A friend of mine I visited yesterday has one of these dollies no box. It was in a box of items purchased at an auction and until you posted this he had no idea what it was!  He was going to throw it away!

Gary does have an eagle-eye when it comes to sales and thrift stores.

The first model 82 I brought home years ago was in it's original box, etc. but I didn't know the dolly existed or I might have actually used the machine!

Great find Fred,

And yes, Gary is amazing with his ability to spot stuff at a rummage.

I like the way the dolly creates a finishing touch.

The only way they (Hoover) could have improved it would have been to wrap the outer ring with a rubber bumper of some sort .... whatever.

Enjoy!!

Rubber..?

Hey Pat- the outer ring is wrapped in a vinyl bumper. :-)

Thanks everyone for your comments!

Wheeled dolly

I didn't know they were available for Constellations! Nice find.

Well, Hello Dolly!

Who would have known? Never quite dug dragging a Hoover Constellation around on the floor, BUT, then again, not big into Hoover's.

The BEST part was seeing how happy Fred is with his! Now, Hoover-man or NOT - that was a Day-Maker!
