they there....i need a Hoover exspert please....todays POD is a wonderful earley 70's ad for the Hoover Swingette...but im a little confused about something....this add pictures a machine with a 1076 yellow bag door, and the classic swingette dark body, but it aslo has the tool rack and a deluxe rug tool.

now here where i get confused, my grammy had one of those same 1076 yellow model, with the orginal box...i of corase have possesion of it now, but hers did not have the rug tool (that im shure of it, cause she love the floor tool and, i know she would have use the rug tool to death)....and it also did not have the tool rack that hangs on the side of the machine....did the singettes just like the DAMs and Convertibles come in diffrent tiers of features??? i would like to know if what i have is indeed complete or incorrect

Swingette moddel 404

The ad is for the original Swingette. And I'm not aware that it had a "baby" brother. I have 6 of them and they're all the same. The bag door is not yellow, but orange, and the colors match that of the Constellation and Portable of the day. It is as far as I know, the only Swingette/Portapower model to have the fancy floor nozzle and I know that over the years after that I could go to the Hoover factory store in Seattle and buy the wire tool rack for about 15 years. Another intersting note is that this machine had the upholstery brush and not the nozzle.
But I also would like to know more! They are a soft spot for me! Greg

My Handivac (brown/tan in color) has the same rug/floor nozzle. It's an interesting shape! I haven't seen one like it before.

Help is on the way!

There were 2 versions of the Swingette. The model 404 is the first one which is pictured in the ad. It is brown, and has the orange bag doors which match the other orange/brown Hoover cleaners from the same time period (see picture of my display of cleaners I showed off in North Canton in 2008).

There was also a model 409 which came later -- with the yellow bag door (matched the 1076 Convertible and 1157 Dial A Matic. I don't believe it came with the combo rug/floor nozzle; perhaps early ones did. I have a spec sheet for the 409, which shows it with a less-deluxe version set of tools (see next post by me). By that point, maybe they canned the attachment caddy..?

That's about all I know.
