I'm no expert, but...

...is the bag lockout switch being pressed down completely when the front cover is closed? If not, the motor won't start. Other than that, it could be something as simple as a bad plug, or a bad cord. If the motor is completely shot, you'd probably have known it in advance.

Potential problems:

1. Does the on/off switch make the snap/snap noise??

2. As mentioned above, is the bag covering the bag lockout switch?

3. As mentioned above, cord problems: plug that goes into the wall, or contacts inside the cordwinder??

The ambassador is a very simple machine to work on or diagnose, since it does not contain all the bells and whistles.

I was just thinking of a few things you could do before you crack that puppy open:

1. Take out the bag, leave the cover open, press the power switch, and then press down on the bag lockout switch. If the motor starts, then your problem is due to the cardboard top of the bag not pressing down on the lockout switch. Try a different bag in that case.

2. Put a new plug on the cord. If there's a replacement plug on it already, it doesn't matter, and if the original plug is still there, it wouldn't be a terrible idea to replace it, as its almost 20 years old by now.

If it still doesn't run after trying these steps, it'll have to come apart. As Elux89 says above, the Ambassador is extremely easy to work on. If you need help let me know.

Andrew:

Why not shoot me an email at duplicimi(at)yahoo.ca and we can talk about it, rather than on this board? I may be able to help (or I may not, but I can try).
