News Flash!

One of Kirby's main distributers who works from the factory has been talking with our local dealer, who is a good friend of my friend and I.

First off- NEW FOR 2012!!!!

Starting in January, The SENTRIA will have a COLOR CHANGE. The color has yet to be released by kirby, but thats whats going to be new for it.(he said he was told by kirby to make sure all old sentrias are sold before the new color) Still going to be called the Sentria of course.
_______________________________________

The distributer was in town, and the dealer had shown him the crazy "Avalier patents" that were floating around here. He said he cant confirm anything about the patents being completely correct, but in 2014 kirby is doing a brand new redesign model for the anniversary.

Its still under VERY tight wraps and he cant really disclose any information about it.

--------------------------------

ANd finally. SEARS department store is now SELLING KIRBY SENTRIAS. You can buy one new for about $1750 at their store. Not sure if they keep them in stock. Will be going to sears tomorrow to see.

Sears is selling Kirby?  What finally convinced Kirby to move beyond their religious belief in door to door sales?  That's like hearing news that the Pope has become a Methodist!

Who knows. I cant confirm anything. On Sears website you can navigate around and find kirby parts but cant find whole machines.

I am speechless. Kirby at Sears? I hope it's not true.

However, online Sears does have something called "Sears Marketplace". Maybe a company is selling them used online with the Sears web-site?

I have seen an abundance of nib Sentria's for sale on ebay and wondered if we might be getting a color change. This seems to happen right before a new model color is introduced. Some say dealer closeout, but some do not. I saw one as low as $500.00 plus, the plus being more toward 600 than 500.

Sincerely,

That is exciting! I hope they do something to stop the smell from the bags. I wonder what the new color will be?

Not too sure about selling at Sears...that really takes the name down a few notches.

Thanks for sharing the news.

Indeed all.

The dealer told me that kirby is also starting to hoard all the new in box Kirby's off ebay. He said they are buying them up like crazy. And are scolding dealers for selling them online.

Sears Link

But look, the link says "Sold by Govacuum". It is NOT sold by Sears, just like I said earlier. How GoVacuum is able to sell a new Kirby is beyond me

If Kirbys are sold at Sears, that'd make my day! :)

Kirby Retail Sales

Retail selling is not new for Kirby. From the 1950's back to the beginning Kirby sold their vacuums through vacuum stores as well as door to door. In fact with their first models the model "C" they had a corresponding model "R" that was designed to be sold in retail stores. Later the same model was sold in both venues. I think it was sometime in the late 1960's or 1970's that they began to sell new vacuums only door to door. I do believe that a large retailer like Sears is a new venture; but retail itself had been done before.

Got my hopes up...

As noted, the link shows it's sold by GoVacuum, not Sears. Sears Marketplace is similar to Amazon. Many companies can advertise/sell through sears.com.

Very good news indeed. A color change was much needed.

But @#$% it!Yell Kirby is no longer a private deal! Something tells me this will be the end of yet another great company, to some corporate company, just for the cash. Money mouth

The handwriting on the wall...

Distributors make NO MONEY on anything sold by Kirby direct. They should, really, make a spiff on anything sold in their local area, including factory rebuilds. It puts the distributor at odds with the factory. The better deal for the customer is the rebuild, but the better deal for the distributor is a repair done locally.

It does not bode well for the future of Kirby, in my estimation.

the problem with kirby being sold in a store (especially not a vac store) is that salesman have very little to work with, they cant inflate the price and they cant deep discount since they would be widely availible and price would almost be set in stone.

factory rebuilds is fine with me being sold in stores.

I do not prefer the history of Kirby after they replaced the Legend II with the Generation 3. 1990 and older Kirbys before the G3 are my preference.

Post# 156246 , Reply# 21   10/21/2011 at 11:07 (4,542 days old) by Brandon_W_T ()

Its the plastic plate that goes around the power switch, and transmission/handle bail area for the G series machines.

(on heritage and older machines it was the plastic piece that went around the power switch, plug, and handle lock area)

I have heard some buzz about the new Kirby Avalier from a friend of mine who has a friend at Kirby. Apparently the new Kirby will be a total re-design and will be a major step away from the typical Kirby formula. It will still be bagged, but the Power Head will not be removable and the belt will not be changed the way it always has. The hose will attach through an access door above the belt drive, but all the dirt will still travel directly by the fan as they do now. The Tech-Drive will now be a three belt system. The carpet shampooer will be a totally separate unit using the Kirby itself only for suction, similar to the Rainbow equivalent. This is just the rumor I've heard, so I can't attribute to the accuracy of it.

I was told from this source that there are no names in place for kirbys 2014 redesign.

Scuff plate is not blue

vacfanatic's profile picture
I got a response from the ebay seller on the scuff plate listed above and he says that it's black. It looks pretty blue to me but maybe his camera is wonky. False alarm on new color I guess.

The scuff plate is black.
Thanks

One of my Sanitaires has a handle that changes colour under camera flash, in person you can barely see a colour difference between the two parts, but apply a flash and one half looks charcoal grey, the other looks light bluish grey like the scuffplate above, it's just how some components of plastics react to the UV light emitted from the flash arc... :)
