Hi All,

Just found these pics of the old Dyson DC01 and DC04 machines that were found in the recent shed clearance.

The DC01 machine is a machine that I had found in 1998 when I was going home from school. I remember it was a horrible winters evening and I had walked about a mile up a steep hile to get home after school, it was very cold and dark and I was exhausted but I remember walking past this house and saw as DC01 standing at the side of the property. I wanted to just go and take it but felt bad so went over and made an excuse that I needed a machine for school project purposes and the owner warned me that it doesnt work but let me take it. I took it home and it was in a very poor state and stank of dog. It was chocked up with dog hair and there was no external cable and the main motor had water inside and condensation from being transfered from outside to inside. I cleaned it up but never got it repaired.

This machine looks like an original made in the middle 90s in the first ever factory on Chippenham, Wilts UK.

I also have some pics of the Dyson DC04 machine that I purchased in 2002 and lasted 8 years. This is a Malaysian made machine which I think was one of the first batch of DC04s made in Malaysia as I remember at that time I saw DC04's that were still made in the UK and it was at around this time Dyson as they were transferring all of their manufacturing of vacuum cleaners to Malaysia (the DC03 and DC05 were already being made there). I never got round to replacing the motor on the DC04 machine but I should do really and sell it on.

DC04 in use a couple of months before the motor burnt out.

Dyson DC04 which came with a head that says DC07 Brushcontrol. I think this was put on in error at the factory. The first DC04 I got had the yellow ring missing from the cleaner head pivot. I had to get it exchanged as the head was wobbling about. I think there was a slight teething problem when the manufacturing was first moved. Its only cosmetic so not a problem.

Do you use these machines?

Would you consider selling them?

Very nice :) It's a shame about the DC01 not working. Funny thing, I've had a DC01 out of somebody's rubbish on my way home from school :P The bearings are a little rough on mine however, and because you can't really get into Dysons with a standard tool kit, I haven't done much with it. I did however, paint it up quite badly a few years ago with surplus spray paint :P I think I told you that I'd like to start collecting DC01s and hopefully get the full set with time, however, my money is currently going towards my guitars so it might be a while before my collection is complete :P

Hi Jacob - Suctior,

I'm afraid that non of these machine work so I would not want anyone to waste good money on machines that don't work. I use a DC24 now as my main driver and the DC16 handheld for odd pickups and a Sebo Felix Classic to groom the carpet that the Dyson manage to very well, also use the Sebo in the car (great for car use)

The DC04 was my main machine from 2002 up until 2009 when it burnt out. It def needs a new motor and I'd recommend changing the Post Motor Filter as well as its clogged with carbon dust emissions. Apart from that, its a fine machine that can be going again for someone. The DC01 needs near enough everything new. Its motor is wrecked, it has no on/off switch, the head is damaged, its handle is damaged, needs new filters and it has no belt, brushbar or soleplate, the main chassis is cracked.

Hi Charlie - rickenbacker,

That's great. I always used to be looking at peoples doorways and driveways when I were walking home from school, just in case they had a Dyson outside. This DC01 was the only Dyson I saw at around that time and also a Panasonic upright which I asked to take and the owners let me take it - worked perfectly. Don't know where that Panasonic is now. I forgot to mention, in the block of flats that I was living in for a little while in Westminster SW London, there was a Dyson DC04 thown out in the garbage area. I saw it on the Sunday evening and thought to myself that I will take it on the Monday morning when I was leaving to go to work. I left the flat at 6.45am Monday morning and as I was walking to the car, I could no longer see this DC04 anywhere, so someone took it - oh well I thought lol, hope someone manages to get it working.

That DC01 is one of my favourite machines (the early one, with the fixed sole plate and more flexible hose)

I couldn't tell you the amount of doors I have knocked on to ask if I can take the vacuum they are throwing out! Ahhh, the good old days!
