Lee’s Constellation 862

Well this one’s restoration has moved fairly fast.
Found in a garden shed sitting on the bare earth for a very long time.

Photos of the extreme corrosion.

First thing this morning I asked if there was any cake to have with my morning coffee break while working in the workshop.

Answer NO.

So I quickly knocked up a lemon drizzle cake for my breaks.

Need to get new bearings some time next week so I can rebuild the motor.

So I move on to the casing.

Still it’s not as bad as I expected it to be, the idea is to preserve the machine as much as possible.

Dose the pink bumper look O.K. with it.

Just need to rebuild the motor and fit a new flex.

I have to say, G.P.O. red doesn't really suit that vac, though on the positive side, I think you can get bright red flex that will match the colour, or you could just use a contrasting White cable... :)

You should go find a K6 telephone box and take a picture with that Constellation next to it... :D

I think the colour does not look bad at all :) From the serial number your 862 is a VERY early one, produced between September 1959 & January 1960

Are you sure that the 822 SN does not begin with the letters HD? If so your 822 would have been produced between January & June 1957, and going by the number closer to June than January

Al

It could be, the plate is in such poor condition you can hardly make out most of the print on it.

New bearings bought today, cost £4.09.
Cleaned motor components and fitted new bearings.

Photo of the motor cover fan side, I had to drill out the old rivets which secured the bearing cover and oil seal, then had to drill them agene to allow the new rivets to fit.

Hi

I got my replacement bearing from a local bearing and belt supplier, I took the old one with me and they matched the size correctly.

Unfortunately I have thrown the box out so cant tell you the sizes :-(
