I saw this on ebay. (ducks for cover) Anyway I thought a rare machine like this should get a good home with a collector. Not just get beat up by some yahoo that heard metal electrolux vacuums are indestructible.
It's true I would like to have it for myself, but it is way over my buget. So please forgive my posting an ebay link for an item I'm not involved in.
Nicholas
P.S. I like the color combo. It reminds me of the new connie.

I was looking at that one. Fits well with my user name actualy (its a model 1521).

I did a bit of research on the 2 bidders and neither of them appear to be collectors based on their bidding history.

Chances are I won't get it. Oh well.

The VCCC actually has one of these, that can be seen every year at the convention, which will be in Omaha this year. It has been well taken care of and has all the tools, so its quite a thing to see. Tom Gasko (with a lot of convincing) talked Electrolux into donating it to the club while he was president.

Hose

sleepdoc's profile picture
I posted a question to the seller about the hose that comes with it. For this piece to be truly excellent, it needs to include the original hose, which isn't shown. The listing says "durable vinyl." I'll post the reply if I get one and get the time. Today is gonna be really busy, but I should be able to.

Ultra Lux

I have the club Ultra Lux until the Omaha Convention. I will try to post pictures next week. I am out of town for the weekend and also have a full schedule on Sunday.

The Ultra Lux is the last of the metal series. It is a very nice vacuum. We have the Side Kick along with the standard attatchments.

I do not know the complete story of how we receieved the Ultra Lux, but I do beleive that Tom Gasko worked with Electrolux during his leadership to acquire the vacuum for us. It has seen very limited use. Even with the limited use, the hose is fraying, but still holds great suction. Ours does not have the sticker on the front like the one on EBay indicating what number out of a 1000 our machine is.

This machine was a special edition to be used as a prize for Electrolux Branch Managers. It was not offered for sale to the general public. When we toured the Electrolux factory in 1998, they had several of these, brand new in sealed cartons. Tom convinced them to give one to the VCCC, and it remains VCCC property. The original intent, within the club, was to keep in in new, unsused condition. Somewhere along the way, that idea went the way of all good things. It has, as someone stated earler, seen limited use while club property.

This machines useage history?

Does anyone get the feeling that the machine machine on ebay has been used? Just look at what else the seller has for sale. Combine that with the fact that it seems like most of the attachments are not included. In addition to this they don't seem to care too much about how special it is(the home maker suggestion).

I actual saw another one of these on ebay a few years back. It was new in the box with all paper work. Had a buy it now of $350 if I remember correctly. It also had a high starting price. Funny thing is in the end no one wanted it. It was never relisted as far as I know. I wonder where that one went?

Lastly, no one has to worry about this thing falling into the hands of a non collector. It has 250 clicks at 12:30 eastern time. Thats about 100 clicks more than the average ultralux will ever receive, and it still has about 12 hours to go.

The seller is very crafty...

... cleverly does not depict the hose in any of the photos - because it's not original. Note the description "vinyl hose." And since, as far as I know, there are no black vinyl Electrolux hoses, it's probably off-white or gray. That's gonna look really crummy with that machine.

This special edition had a black woven hose. Without it, the machine's appearance -- and, thus, its value as a collectible -- is of course greatly diminished.

I just hope that people who bid on it realize this. Especially if their intent is to add it to a collection.

Your are correct, I caught that in the add as well. The orginal hose has silver, black, red and if memory serves it may even have a gold thread as well.

Once I get home this weekend I will try to get pictures taken.

I am not sure where the label on the front came from either, our machine does not have one, unless because we were not a dealer they did not put one on the machine. The label I am referring to is the number of the machine from 1000.

Here is a picture of the one that was on ebay a few years ago.

You can see the silver hose and the original paper work. Strange that no one wanted this.

Anyway this should give you guys a good idea what the orignal hose and attachments look like until some better images are posted. I knew I archived that for a reason!

The hose

sleepdoc's profile picture
I sent a query to the seller regarding the hose and just received an answer. It is not the original hose. It is a vinyl hose. If anyone wants this, an original replacement hose may very well be unavailable in any condition. Electrolux doesn't support old products well at all.

Oh, the hose was silver. Why was I thinking it was black. I thot it was black with red and gold striping. Well, at least I was right about it being a woven hose.

Not even sure a silver hose would look right with this machine...

PHOTOS!

I looked thru my photos of the 2005 meeting here in L.A. and found some photos of the Club's Commemorative Ultralux. Here they are.

Thanks Charlie,

The gold I was thinking of must have been the lettering and the sides of the machine. I knew the hose had silver, black and red.

Thanks again Charlie

Actually, it's kinda ugly isn't it. Why do the machine in dark charcoal and gold and the hose in silver, red and black. The hose thus looks like a mismatch.

I still have to say that model is the best looking Electrolux.

colors

Charlie, I think the machine actually is stainless/silver (as in an Ultralux Classic) with black plastic. The gold appearance in the picture is a reflection of yellow ambient light. In person, the hose looks ok, but this auction doesn't include one.

Disclaimer

I am considering bidding on this item. I am not trying to discourage others from bidding on it because the hose is missing. That reduces its value to me, too, but the machines ARE essentially impossible to obtain.

I wonder who ended up getting it. It didn't go as high as I thought it might - maybe the lack of hose did discourage the "big guns" from bidding on it.
