Yesterday I was reading the newspaper and came across advertisement for Frys Electronics, which is a very large appliance and electronic store here. I always check their ad for deals on vacuums, as they normally have the best selection. Boy did I find a deal!

Frys Electronics had for sale a refurbished Dyson DC14 for only $179! I can't even find a deal like that on eBay! They were sold out online, but the store in Tempe had some in stock. So my dad and I went over to pick one up, after I make sure I wanted it of course.

I took it home and assembled it, which was quite easy. I read the owner's booklet, which is quite nice by the way, and took it for a spin. I picked up half a bin of dog hair with just half of our living-room!

Now, any of my vacuums could have done this easily, and most of them could have done better. So I was not too surprised. What I was really surprised with was when I went over one of our area rugs. I have never seen a bypass-motor vacuum lift this carpet until now. The Dyson did it. What else do I like about it? Well....

*The attachments are great. They don't feel like they're going to snap in half like a Kirby's, and they really clean! I don't have to scrub with the upholstery tool to remove pet hair. The angled crevice tool is nice when cleaning along the baseboards.

*Although not electronic, I like that I can stop the brush-roll. Not a unique feature, but it's nice I don't have to pull out a hose.

*The large debris channel is AWESOME! All the crumbs and pet hair on the tile is just sucked right up. It even works well on carpets.

*The suction and airflow is quite powerful. It's really shown when I vacuum the area rugs, like I've already said. Very nice with the hose.

*The cyclonic separation is so so so much better than Hoover's current dual-cyclonic system on their T-Series. When I first got my T-Series you could see the filter get dirty after a few uses, My filter looks new, and I've vacuum the whole house twice now. We will see how dirty it gets in a few weeks. Also, with the T-Series, the fine dirt collects in this little hole at the bottom of the dust cup, and you have to pick it out. With the Dyson it just falls out. Pet hair gets stuck in the dust-cup with the T-Series, with the Dyson it just falls out. That is the main reason why I originally dislike bagless. My problem is now somewhat solved.

The DC14 is not a loud as I thought would be as well. But the Dyson is not perfect; there are still some things I don't like.

*Removing the wand from the hose is not easy, nor putting it back in. I don't plan to use the hose too much anyway, but it's there when I need it.

*Human hair just loves to stick to the brush-roll. It's not easy to remove either. If I have to clean the bursh roll too much, it will really affect my opinion on the machine. I bought it to clean my house, not for me to clean to the vacuum.

*The floor head to very big, and can't get under anything. If they had added the flat floor nozzle on their canisters you'd been set.

Otherwise it's a nice machine. I love the whooshing sound as you let the handle down. My 50ft central vac hose fits it perfectly, so that is nice. I also love it's color: blue. I don't like the Dyson yellow and purple.

I once really disliked Dyson. My opinion has changed, but mostly because I realized how much cleaner it is to empty Dysons. I think with the current vacuum line-up, Dyson is one of the best for sale.

So, was the Dyson worth $179? Yes, I think so. The Frys salesman said they were loosing money on this deal to attract customers. So you can't beat the price. There's not very many good vacuums for can get new for $180. But, is a Dyson worth it's full retail price? I don't think so. $400+ is alot of money when you can get a Riccar.

So, that is my day. I will update some more on my Dyson experience as I use it was my daily vacuum.

Checkrate/Likes My dc 18 is really easy to live with, years and years of daily use, nothing has ever messed up.Filter is never dirty! This one is smaller, not a deep cleaner, but works well otherwise. On mine I find its easier to put the hose back in if its still running, but it is the only Dyson I have used, so that may just be my model. Glad you enjoyed it. Clean, easy dump out for sure.

Checkrate/Likes I love the dyson dc14 , they are not perfect your right but for what you pay even new they are well worth it , You can't compair them to a kirby or aeries which cost more but they are very good machines

Checkrate/Likes The DC14 Animal actually did include a flat tool for cleaning under low reach places. I am not sure that the All Floors did though. I too have a DC14, but it is the Animal, and I absolutely love it! We have 3 dogs and two cats and it is perfect for our house. The tools are great as well. Too bad you didn't get the turbo tool with it. When pressure is applied to it, instead of bogging down, it speeds up! It really is neat.
