I am not sure how old this is so if its in the wrong forum I'm sorry.

This is a special I got on ebay a while ago for $35. I have almost all the parts for it. The turbo nozzle was brand new in the box when I got it. This sat in someones storage for a while. I ripped the collar of a miele bag and fitted it onto the bag cuff. Works awesome.

haha Gareth!
I didn't realise they were sold in the states either!
Well it "looks" like a later model 121, 1000W, from the earlly 90's. It was repalced by the VAX 2000 in about '92.
The turbo head is a later one, the original style one is slightly different.
The wands look like they are from an earlier 900W 121!
Although I wonder how many differences there were for the US market?

I've quite a few of these!
Any chance you can post pics of the carpet washing tools etcc please?

They have become very rare all of a sudden

They are brilliant machines though

Oh shame you don't have the shampoo accessories anymore.
They do a great job removing embedded dirt and grit.

Up until recently they used to appear on UK ebay in large numbers,
however now there doesn't seem to be many.
In 1989 they became britian's best selling vacuum.

Didn't these Vax vacuums sell well in the USA or were there limited # of those vacs here in the US?

Lovely :) earlier vaxs are some of my favourite machines! I don't know if you remember, James, but I think you and I have spoken about them over youtube? I have a 121 just like that and I've a feeling it's an earlier one too as I'm pretty sure that it's 900 Watts. Unfortunately, I only have the wet filter for it so I can't use it too much. It's still a great vac to have though :)

floor-a-matic, I'm not sure how well they sold in the USA, or exactly what models you had, if someone knows it would be nice to find out :)

Some of my favourite machines too, obviously!
Yes Charlie I certainly remember talking on one of my VAX 8100sx videos,
the 121 originally had the 900W motor, in about 1987. Check the sticker next to where the cord enters the machine.
The 121 is their 3rd 3 in 1 machine, there are 2 models before, and they did a 900W and 1000W 121, along with several other changes to that model throughout its production.
VAX were constantly improving the machines from their launch in the late 70's

I've heard that the first ever machine that Vax made was called the Vax valet, right? I don't think I've seen any of their vacuums before the first generation of 121s. I always found it a bit odd that they used white tools on the original 121, however, it has an odd kind of charm to it lol I have always liked white attachments for some reason, no idea why :P. I wonder if they used them because of the wash wizard in America, it probably worked out cheaper to keep using tools from them.

As far as I know the first VAX was the 101, 800W, with white tools, hose etcc it had a white opaque washing head [it was 6" wide].
Then the 111, 900W, also with white tools etcc, used the same washing head but it was transparent. Then the 121 900W was the first to use the black hose and tools etcc, but the same washing head.
The larger washing head [8"] was first used on the 1000W 121 I think.

I have the brochure for the 101 and it certainly emplies its the first model, I'm pretty sure it is, there are no references to "valet"
All I've heard of the VAX valet being the first is from Ryan,
I have all the models 101, 111, 121 900W, 121 1000W.
[You can watch a video of each on my you tube channel]
Im missing the 122, I'm not sure what it is at all tbh! Im thinking it may be the all grey version, but I know little about either.

They pretty much all look the same too, a few minor differences, and wheel arrangments. Although the 101 has a transulcent recovery bucket which is pretty cool.
I may post a picture of each at a later date so you can see :)

I think that Vax on top pic was one of the first USA models?

I found a youtube vid of a USA vax advert, it was of a 121.
The earlier models look pretty much like the one pictured above, so it can be quite hard to tell what model is what unless you know all the little details!
