Something I don't understand. When ever I purchase anything from ebay, I pay for it right then and there, I don't wait till the next day or week, same should go for anyone that purchase's from me, they should pay at the end of the listing. Its like everyone thinks that this is a layaway plan and that they can reserve an item and pay when its convenient. Pisses me off! I sold a vacuum a couple of months ago and they waited 10 days to pay. I opened a case and they give me a neg feedback! ARRRR!

I don't think 10 days is an inordinately long period of time for someone to pay on an eBay auction, especially if they are mailing their payment via check or postal money order.

Everyone doesn't sit at their computers all day; some people only log on once a week or less. Someone could place a bid on an auction when starts, but may not necessarily be sitting there the very second it ends.

Now, going beyond 14 days, that would be a different story. But even the most bloodthirsty creditors give their customers more than 10 days to pay!

I will say, I do always pay via PayPal, and right away -- as soon as I can. And as a seller I obviously prefer PayPal.

I was just thinking about people who are disabled, elderly, have to share a computer with other people, etc., who might not be able to pay the very second a listing ends.

One thing that does get my goat is when a seller starts hounding me for payment the very day an item ends! I've even had sellers try to file a non-paying-bidder claim two days after an auction ended, and before they even contacted me first. They just "pushed the big red button" without any notice or warning whatsoever. That to me is really being excessively impatient.

When a listing ends on ebay, when time runs out I pay for that item right then and there. If I have bid on something that means that I have the money to pay for it, so I do so, pay for it. I don't go to a store and pick up groceries and walk out then go back a day or 2 later and pay for them, I pay for what I can afford right then and there.  I get pissed when someone has the nerve to bid on something I have and not pay for it imediately.  I don't list items on Ebay to end and have a big layaway, or pay it when you want, I want that money now.  I shouldn't have to wait till the spirit moves anyone to pay. And if its not paid in 4 days I will open a case of non-payment.

I don't invest the time and money running around finding items, vacuums in decent shape, take a day or 2 to clean them up, buy replacement parts, pay to list that item with Ebay, wait 3 to 5 days for that listing to run. By the end of it I have 2 weeks of time invested into that vacuum or item plus what gas was involved in getting that item, Yes I am wanting that money at the end of that listing!  Tough if anyone doesn't like it if they get hounded for not paying imediately. Don't bid if you can't afford it, let someone else that can win the bidding.

All I can say is, your uncharitable attitude will very likely scare away potential bidders. It's scaring =one= away, at any rate...

Your analogy about leaving a store without paying is flawed: When you leave the store, you have the goods in your hands. On eBay, you don't get the stuff until you pay for it. Bad luck for you if you've bought from a seller who's got a bad case of Impatientitis.

And it may not be a matter of a bidder not being able to "afford" paying for the item. It may be that he's one of those strange people with a life outside the Internet and doesn't sit in front of his computer all day and night.......

All I can say is that when something is bought or is the winning bid on Ebay, you aren't buying off of ebay your buying from someone who has taken the time to list an item that your interested in. It might be their livelyhood, be on disability, or even they might be unemployed without benefits and this might be their only way to get income at this time.

So taking 1-2 or 10 days to pay when someone needs the money to suppliment an income that might be non-existant due to this economy.

To  say I don't set in front of an computer 24-7 when most everyone now has an I phone, Ipad, android, laptop that they use just to stay intouch with friends and relatives on the internet, and can't pay for an item on ebay when its purchased just means that they can't afford it in the first place and want to wait till they get paid so they can.

Well, I certainly didn't mean to start a big food fight on this matter.  I was just stating my opinion, which has not changed, that sellers should be reasonable when waiting for payments. And a one-day (or less) window of time is not reasonable. In my opinion.

I do not sit at the computer until the last second of an auction. I place my bid when I find something I like and then let the auction run its course. If I win, I'll pay. If I get outbid, "better luck next time." eBay automatically notifies bidders when they win an auction. There's no reason to sit here and wait for each auction to end that I've placed a bid on.

I have been a member of eBay for quite a long time, since 1998 -- nearly since it was founded. I have a 100% positive feedback record with over 1750 hits on it, about 70% of those as a buyer. So apparently =some= people on eBay are satisfied with the way I've been paying for my winning bids over the years. I have also learned in those 13 years how to be patient, reasonable and courteous with other ebay users.

Sometimes "life is in session." Things come up that may delay a payment. If seven days have elapsed and I haen't heard from a buyer, I send a courteous reminder of their winning bid and ask them to pay. After 10 days I send another one. After 14 days I open a non-paying-bidder complaint. I think the fact that I do not have a single negative feedback says something about how I treat other eBay users.

I have =certainly= seen it change over the years. In every regard -- buyers, sellers, and eBay itself. And in many cases, not for the better. But love it or hate it, it's the best and most-used web site of its kind.
