Panasonic has been making the Kenmore canisters since the early 90's and a few years later they were also supplying the uprights.
Prior to that Singer made Kenmore uprights and the canisters were made by Whirlpool until Whirlpool sold the vacuum division to Panasonic. That style canister was a Whirlpool design started in the mid 80's and then Panasonic continued using it

I had a singer canister in for repair yesterday, mid ninties model but it was missing msot of its markings , should have taken a pic but it just needed a new plug so I did it while the customer waited :(

But Whirlpool made!

The uprights also in the late 50s early 60s, and before 1957, Birtman made all the Kenmore vacs.

Panasonic used the Whirlpool Whispertone design up to around 2003 or so.

That is in good shape. Having the later-style Kenmore logo in the yellow color and the moulded in wand holder, I would say it's from around '96 or '97. The final run of the Whispertone.

I must say I miss the dark blue's and dark greens of previous vacuums , every one has tried to copy dyson with brght colours and I think they should have stuck to their own identity.

My mom had a dark metalic green Electrolux contour when I was a teeager, it was such a lovely colour and suited the machine perfectley.

They don't have much of a personal identity anymore. Clones comes to mind. I go to the Kirby distributors office's and look at the trade ins they have and its like a sea of clones. Oh there are a few, very few unique vacuums but I would like to see individualism come out more in models. I like the Miele bright colors of the Titan, love the red! Or the Leo's yellow.

Nice find, Ben! Does your Kenmore have the double stage Ametek motor, or single stage Panasonic motor? And how much did you pay for it? Sure does look to be well-cared for by its previous owners....

I am not sure, its 9amp but has a hell of alot of suction! Runs strong! And yes its very very clean and no real scratches.

That canister should have the full-size Lamb motor. Panasonic used a factory-supplied (Matsushita) motor, but only the canisters with the "Panasonic" name on them, like the V9644.

If it were the canister with the 2 prong hose (ON/OFF on the canister itself), then it would likely have the cheaper one-stage Amatek (loud) motor.

Later on, the Kenmore Progressive and Panasonic V9658, for example used the same exact motor.

Thought I would share

I bought this from ebay recently, I just couldn't pass it up. I always wanted a whispertone for a long time but could never find one in good shape. I would say this or the 100 are my favorite for a whispertone canister because I like the blue color and I like the gold decals on these the best. This is in mint condition, looks like it had only been used a few times. It also came with extra bags and it also included the powermate jr which I didn't really need but I think it's cool to add that in to the collection. This matches both my Progressive 100 and my Professional 12" uprights that I have in storage. And speaking of storage. Since I can't put this in my cabin, I found some room in the attic to store this up there along with a few more vacuums that I might find later on. Anyway just thought I would share this.

I will have to check, but...

a couple of months ago, I found one like this in red. A couple of years ago, I found a straight suction model in green. The green one has the attachments snapped in to the top, no cover over them. I also picked up another green model that I believe match yours and my other red vacuum.

The exposed tool, straight vacuum has been cleaned up, the other 2 are in line. I keep getting distracted with newer finds like yesterday's white Simplicity Symmetry.
