So, I have been using my Eureka 1934A for a few days now as my current daily driver. I noticed that it wasn't picking up very well, and I couldn't imagine why because I had just changed the bag and belt for the youtube video I made of it a few months ago. The first thing is that it was super easy to push.... it's always been easy, but now it just floated over the carpet like it was a feather. I looked at the fan blades and felt them with my finger and they were fine. The bag was barely inflating and the machine was behaving like my Hoover Convertible always does.... it was kicking cat litter out at my feet and when I went to run over a piece of tissue (I washed a tissue by mistake and got little pieces all over the carpet), it just spit it back on the floor..... I ran over the same piece about 9 times and it just would not "suck up"! I didn't get suspicious with the bag not inflating much because I know when you change a bag on a soft bagged vacuum they are softer than they are after they've been used a bit and the pores start to clog.... but I took the bag off just to have a look... "knowing" I wasn't going to find anything! I did, however, find something! When I made the video, I vacuumed up a bunch of paper shreddings, and they clogged the machine fill tube and the paper bag fill tube on the F and G bag! There was about 2 cups of paper, along with a lot of dust and cat hair that was cutting off airflow to the bag! No wonder I wasn't getting any suction!

So, I cleaned it out.... then I thought I'd wax it because it had been a while and I'd just used Meguires plastic polish on the Hoover Convertible and Miele Plus and it really shined them up. I used to use car was on the plastic, but I got some plastic polish for the bagless Dirt Bins to see if I could get them a little clearer.... Anyway, I took her for a test spin, and I'm glad to say, she's back to doing what she does best.... gently and elegantly grooming and cleaning the carpet with grace and style. The bag inflates normally, and I can feel the seal to the carpet now! And, the dirt just races in! So nice to hear the sand by the front door jumping up the paper fill tube again! I'm glad to have it back working right, it really is a fun vacuum.... I just can't believe that I did this... me, someone who knows about vacuums and loves them as I do, had a clog and didn't even realize it! If someone else did this who didn't know/care about vacuums, I'd chuckle.... now I've been humbled! Anyone else have a similar experience?

Yup, been there. Just recently I picked up a jumbo bag tie, a plastic one like is on a bread bag except 3 time as large. ( it come on the big box of kitty litter), It must have been stuck for a while as I was still getting quite a bit of dirt in the cup. One day I took the nozzle off to clean next to the dryer and noticed the neck of the nozzlre had har sticking out. The bag clip was stuck just before the bend. I took the PN appart and took out the plastic clip and a wad of fluff and dust.

I thought how could I have missed this big @ss thing, or not hear it flick into the nozzle.

Thanks Kenny. What machine did that happen to you on? Good to know I'm not the only one.

It is a good vacuum and to think I almost didn't buy it because just a few weeks before I found it I'd just gotten these two pictured below, and I thought it would be redundant to have such similar machines.... but I was looking for this one when I got the other two and now I am glad I have them all... I really labored over whether or not to get this one and even left the GoodWill the first time I saw it without it.... but I just couldn't resist and made a 45 minute drive with surprisingly valid hopes that it would still be there. this one is still my favorite, but I do appreciate the quick release cord and headlight and vibragroomer 2 on the ESP model and the big ballooning bag on the other one. Funny though, it was the cheapest one when new, but I paid the most for it.... I got the 1934A for 25 dollars, the ESP for 10, and the Santiaire for 20.

I got mad at the poor vacuum for not performing right and it was my fault the whole time.... and this happens every time I do a Youtube video, at least one of the machines will be clogged by the time the torture is over with, so I should have known better!

I just had to vacuum up more paper shreddings.... a friend from Boston sent me a birthday present and the little prick knows I like to vacuum so he packed it in paper shreds which got all over the place when I opened it and I'd just vacuumed! I used this guy again, but I went really slow, raised the height adjustment so more air flow happen and checked everything afterwards to make sure everything was still OK. It was :o)

It does help to change bags straight after torture tests... :P

Bobby, I love the angle you've used to take the pics of the Boss and the other Eureka - this is such a cool view onto some beautiful vacs - almost like the photos shown in professional Eureka advertisements!

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad that Eureka is still selling the 1934 as a classic remnant of the great F&G Dial-A-Nap line from the 1970's. Such a great, basic upright that cleans well and holds a lot of dirt in each bag. Amazing to think that Sears use to sell these basic "bag-in-the-back" uprights for only $100 bucks - including a basic tool set!

"Eureka. The very best in vacuum cleaners."

You should convert those vacs to use the ST Filtrete bags, they're much better at filtering and have vastly improved airflow on a vac that already has tremendous power, especially on Pancake motor models... :)

I've forgotten where I saw them, but there's a site that sells the ST filltube as I think as "Dirt tube & Overmold assy." or something on those lines, worth investigating, cos then you have a solid fulltube, rather than paper that can get pierced by debris, and you get the cloth filter bags (similar to Kirby's, but even bigger!!!), it's a win-win situation... :D

Bobby it was my Hoover Linx stick vac. I don't have a working camera at the moment but here is a stock photo. It has also happened with a Kenmore twin fan, and of course a few canisters.

I've not heard good things about those tacony-made F&G bags, only people saying that they split from the paper tube or burst at the outer seams, aswell as not filtering as well as they claim to, better off just using genuine Eureka F&Gs/Electrolux E74s or upgrading to ST bags than to have to keep cleaning out your outer bag... :\
(or do as I did with my ZC-880 and make it use a Kirby filltube and Kirby Poly. bags!!! :P )

As for that overmold assembly, the price seems a bit high, I think the one I saw was about $7.99 or something, shame that they don't put pictures of the parts up though, it'd be easier to find then... :P

OK, Kenny. You threw me for a lop there when you said dirt cup and power nozzle in the same sentence. I thought you were taking about a bagless canister for a while there, but now I understand.

I don't know if I would like the ST bag set up... I'd have to change 4 machines.... I kind of like to keep things as original as possible and the F and G bags are easier to find for now... plus I can change interchange them with my Royal...

Well, the ST conversion is easy as pie, you fit it in the same manner as you fit F&G bags, slip the rubber end over the exhaust and roll the retainer spring over it, and there you go, conversion complete, and you have the option to revert to F&Gs if you haven't any ST bags left... :)

Never realised Royals used F&G bags, I thought they had their own setup... :S

Just remember that they won't fit Generic "Made to Fit" bags, the exhaust tube is too small apparently, they only work in genuine Eureka & Sanitaire bag assemblies... :)
