I found a new in box (box is not in best shape) Kirby Split Second for the Kirby Heritage II. Everything is complete and it works! Not sure how long the charge will hold but I don't plan on using it. It was an item I wanted to complete the set.

That's a pretty cool kit, I've always wondered what they looked like, and what the mounting kit looked like, I want one... :P

Wow that is cool! I saw those little things before but had no idea they attach to the vacuum.

Are you the guy that bought the Heritage II brand new? That is a beautiful machine.

Wouldn't that be neat if the Split second hand vac could charge in its holder while the Kirby was plugged in!That way it would charge in between uses while you used the Kirby.for many jobs the Split Second would be easier than putting the hose and tools on the Kirby-of course the hose use is more powerful.

Oh yes-hope the Split seconds batteries can hold a charge after all of those years!

@tolivac - I would think it couldn't be that hard to make a little adapter to go between the power connection on the vac and the power cord. With some velcro stick the Split Second AC adapter on the back of the vac handle.

my old Oreck carvac! The Oreck had a cord though, but it still was a neat machine to use!

Dave,

Yes I did get this Kirby NIB in January. In the pictures it looks like there are a few scratches on the vacuum handle but they are from the flash on the camera - this vacuum has never even been bumped against the baseboards in my house :) I do need to clean it though - fingerprints and nose prints from the dog being curious.

Sanitairered....

The Kirby SplitSecondII is also a 12v car vac, I have the Sentria styled one, of course they are badge-engineering, probably made by the same company (Douglas I think) who make the hand vacs for Kirby, Sears, Oreck and for themselves too... :)

I keep thinking of how I could modify my SSII to be battery powered using self-contained batteries rather than have to tether it to a 12v supply... :)

Here is a video I just did a while ago - you can definately tell there was a decline in the quality of the motors on these late model hand vacs. My Sentria one sounds horrible.

Anyone else have one that sounds like this? Maybe I got a bad one?

You're not the only one to think the motors are cheap, when I first got my SSII, I thought the bearings were shot, but, it seems they're designed poorly so sound awful, I have a video here:

How many Split Seconds are there?? Wow considering how expensive the Sentria is (especially this day in age when people do not want to pay alot for a vacuum) they really could have come up with something better than that. And it should be standard equipment too. A little aluminum or chrome looking plastic, PLEASE!

There's two Split Seconds as far as I know, the battery powered one (Split Second) and the 12v car one (Split SecondII)... :P

As for using something of more quality, well, considering that they're optional extras, I don't think Kirby are that bothered, so long as they get their money from selling the main vac, then the extras can be anything they like... :\
