Construction has officially begun on one of my entries in the non-cleaning contests. Thought I would let you all know that time is moving pretty quickly (snuck up on me too)!

Since this is a vacuum related thread...

(wait for it)

I have begun work on my UNIVERSAL upright

(Gawd - it felt good to type that word)

Here's a pic of the motor as it left the base for the first time in about seven hundred years.

Hey, BTW - how do you guys get those pulleys off when they are rusted on? I ain't too good on uprights....

UNIVERSAL upright work has begun......

This UNIVERSAL sat in water for a number of years I am guessing, and many of the parts are rusted. Salvageable - but rusted. Here is the two-piece UNIVERSAL rug-plate/belt cover getting treated with Navel Jelly prior to wire wheeling. Wondering if this design was exclusive to UNIVERSAL (I'm O D'ing) or not.

Universal is to Rick as uncle Sam is to country pride. You just can't separate the two! :)

What I would like to see as pictures from this year's convention are Tom Gasko's collection of Rainbow vacuums, including the 1980 model D2A and D3A.

Thank you,

Ben Edge (KirbyClassicIII)
