Besides the cute little Lux that arrived this morning; see the thread  "Electrolux model S on ebay" I picked up 3 other nifty little bargains in the past week:   a sweet little Kenmore, Rainbow D2 and Riccar/Panasonic.

First, the Kenmore.  I was looking for something to use at the "cabin" which would store compactly and this will work perfectly.  I like the two-toned sage and pistachio color scheme.

this Rainbow has been to hell and back

I already had a complete set of tools, dolly and even a spare separator so all I needed was a motor unit.  The powernozzle and spare water pan were a nice bonus.

Houston, we have a problem.....

When I found this at the thrift store I spotted a suspiciously dirty looking pan, and decided to walk away.  But then a nagging voice said "what's a little dirt?" so I went back, lifted the unit OFF the pan and plugged it in.  The darned thing ran like a top, with a long smooth wind-down when switched off.  So, it came home with me.  It will need a THOROUGH cleaning.......someone used it without any water.  "This is one of those bagless vacs, right?"

Finally, this Riccar/Panasonic had a very sheltered existence before reaching the thrift store.  Hardly a spec of dust on it anywhere and only one small smudge on the side, easily erased.  Literally all it needs is a new belt and package of bags.

@henry200
I believe your Rainbow is either a 1979-era D2 (chocolate brown trim color instead of copper) or that of the short-lived stopgap model D2A (essentially just the D2 with the motor assembly of the future D3A).

Could you please read what the power nozzle's nameplate (see back view by handle joint) is? I hint it is a model R-1024 type F.

Thank you,

Ben Edge

Ben, the power nozzle is model #R1024 E, and the Rainbow itself is model D2.

Wow.....

that Rexair brings back memories. It was the only vacuum as a kid that scared me. I was sure it was doing things on its own at night, from its lair in the closet.;-) I have ZERO desire to collect one of those-pity.

Kevin,

As an Internet - trained psychologist, I may be able to help you overcome this fear of water filtering-media household appliances. My fee is approximately $1,324.88 an hour, but I feel that over the course of one-hour a day/five days a week treatments not lasting say - over three months, I can cure you of your Rexairfobia.

And look - don't thank me. Just being able to help is thanks enough! Well, and of course cash or money orders only please.

Or PayPal.

Sincerely,

Rick

PS Neil: Nice machines. Looks like you are well on your way to another very nice collection!

Oh....

that's OK, Rick. My PayPal account is broken....or maybe my typing arm ...can't remember which. In any event, your pricing seems reasonable for the Gates Foundation folks, so it should be good enough for me. I'll think about it and let you know; don't call me, as I'll call you.;-)
