There's the Sanitaire ZC-880 that was sold here in Europe, VERY hard to find and I only know of three, one of them being mine, one richardc1983's and the other being Jack's, it's basically a cross between an SC-886 and an S670 (older models with the grey plastic loop handle & switch), with grey outer bag and an F&G (or Type E74 in European Electrolux parlance) bag system... :)

Mine's currently out of action though as it's donated it's motor to another 'taire, but I do love using my sanitaires, rare or not... :)

I also have one, as does Mike King, as does Johnny Danks, as does the Spa of Neil and Bob,

Not so rare now taking us up to 9.

Also got few of the earlier models knocking around between us collectors,

That's another 5 then... :P

Still, 9 out of however many were made for Europe (must be well into the tens of thousands), that is rare to me... :P

I love my Sanitaire but I rotate between that and the Kirby Sentria prob at 3 monthly intervals.

Prob with the Sanitaire is it spits cat litter about. I converted mine to take the new style bags and also fitted a better brushroll did improve things. It is almost self propelled now.

The sanitaire also eats through belts!

IS it this one your using a metal fan in?

I want to get a curved bladed fan for my Sanitaire. It has the plastic straight blade version in at the moment and I find this makes it spit things out.

Does anyone know where I can get one with curved blades from that are more like the kirby blades?

Reason I ask is the straight blades of the clear lexan fan in the vacuum seem to bounce small bits of grit and small stones back off it and then it spits them back out, a bit like the hoover juniors used to do...

I was thinking the curved blades which are shaped more like the kirby fan would be better as the grit should follow the curves of the blade and up into the bag?

Its so annoying as when I vacuum my door mat it spits half the small bits of grit and stones that have been trodden in back out.

Kirby doesnt do this though and never spits back out, I know the fan is not upside down though on Kirby but the blades are curved also.

I have the ZC-880.

I know there is a black and red Sanitaire. There is a picture of the base on the back of a rug I have, and I have never seen one in person.

"IS it this one your using a metal fan in?"

Yes, I'm using a metal fan in my Sanitaire, bought from an ebay seller (see link below), I do have spare plastic ones, including the one it came with originally, but, I prefer the metal fan... :)

As for spitting out cat litter, I don't have the same problem, but then the cat litter is out of the way of any carpeting, and the stuff we use is pelleted sawdust (Cobbycat, check your local petshop, it's good stuff and absorbs smells nicely) that breaks up on impact, but, it could also be that you have your height adjustment set wrong, maybe a tad too low, thus restricting airflow which means the thing can't suck up the litter through the fan, and so it bounces back out...

As for curved blades, I think we've done this one before, there's no fan for Sanitaires or Eurekas like ours that have curved blades, and that one in the link would rotate backwards, and Kirby & even Hoover fans would also turn the wrong way, so to put it lightly, you're stuck with straight blades... :\

And last bit, use Hoover Senior (Convertible over the pond) belts, they're tighter than the normal belts and thus don't burn off as fast, I've been using them successfully for a while now, even so much as the first belt I bought last year was only recently changed, so I thoroughly recommend them (for the residents of the US though, do NOT use them on Blender motor models, they will damage the bearings in those motors)... :)

On this post www.vacuumland.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-... someone has said that it is because of the size of the fan opening that the bits bounce of the fan and back out.

I also use the wooden pellet cat litter much better for odours too. I just find though when you get bits of grit on the door mat and things it just spits them out. I have checked the height adjuster and doesnt seem to make much difference really.

Maybe if I can get some tin or something and adjust the the opening this may work?
