Just when I had about given up on thrift stores I found this yesterday. It didn’t have a price tag so I asked a lady stocking shelves how much it would cost. She went and looked it up on the computer and sad $10. I said I’ll take it, and she looked at me funny and said don’t you want to see if it runs? So to humor her I plugged it in and ran it for a second then switched it right off. She was again surprised that I didn’t run it over some dirt to see if it would pick it up. I said that the bag was super full and probably wouldn’t pick up anything and that I would fix it up anyway.
It was in pretty good shape but it needed a cleaning a new belt and a bag-ectomy. I also replaced the lower handle bolt with a spare one I had, it came with a regular bolt and was missing the little plate on the back.
When I took it apart Koda wanted to help. He has to be in the middle of everything.

The other 593s I have seen don't have a hand grip and this one is different than all of my other Convertibles. Would it be an aftermarket ad on? The color seems to match perfectly.

And last I put on a gray bag just to try it, and I think it looks pretty good. It matches the bumper. Hoover should have sold one with these colors too.
Enjoy,
Nicholas

Nice find! I hope you enjoy it. I'm not sure about the handle grip, I'm sure a Convertible expert knows the answer.

Nice Find

My 593 does not have the handle grip like yours but, I have seen 593's with them. Also my 593 has a bumper guard to match the hood and bag in color? My 714 has one of those grips that matches the color of the hood and bag. I am wondering if these may have been after market that dealers could install? Any info would be appreciated here. Thanks !

Love your convertible!

I put a taupe NOS similar bag on my NIB convertible. Nothing like the perforated vinyl bag with the HOOVER lettering!

The earlier models had the bumper that matched the hood and a zipper bag, at least mine does. Hoover was known for making changes during a production run for whatever reason. Does yours have a zipper or snap bag?

Those handle grips that are smooth, are in fact Genuine Hoover. In the late 60's, a bunch of models had grips like that for a short period of time. There was the model 714, 719, and the 593. I don't recall offhand any other models -- there may have been more than what I just listed. I've seen model 719s with both types of grips. Not sure why they made the change, and strayed from the original design... but they ended up going back to it not too long after deviating on those few models.

Nice 593! I love the color! And it doesn't look bad with that brownish bag on it... it matches the bumper. Rick A is right, early 593's had a bumper that matched the hood and bag; later ones (more commonly) had the brown bumper.

Well, some vacuum stores with tons of old parts may have some outer bags for convertibles.

Thanks for the comments. The green bag has snaps, and the grayish one has a zipper. It came with my model 33 but I don't think it was original.
