Has anyone ever managed exactly an exhaustive history of the many bag designs Royal used on its products thru the years?
Let me start off with this ... The first known bag Royal used on its commercial product was dark blue in color. On the front there are five vertical silver stripes, with a small crown (embroidered in red) near the top, the ROYAL name (red embroidery) below that, and the word C-O-M-M-E-R-C-I-A-L, read vertically, in red letters against a silver rectangle. This design ran from 1971 to 1975. The next version had no changes to the graphic, except for a bigger crown logo. This design ran from 1976 to 1984. Another version of the (shake-out) bag existed during this period which, on light blue cloth, we see the then-current Royal print logo on top, and we see the word COMMERCIAL, read vertically between two vertical lines. The third bag design, to assume both shake-out and disposable forms, was again dark blue in color, but this time, we see on top the then-current Royal print logo, and below that the word C-O-M-M-E-R-C-I-A-L, again read vertically. These two together form a "T" shape. This design was only used in 1985. From 1986 to early 1987, we again have a dark blue bag, but this time, on the top left of the front of the bag, we have the "Royal Five" patch logo. The first red rectangle dons the Royal crown logo, the clear part of the patch has the Royal name written five times, and the other red area has the word "COMMERCIAL." Then, in April 1987, the bag now switches colors from dark blue to gray. The patch logo is the same as we saw it in '86, however the clear area, where we still see the Royal name written five times, is now a blue background. This is the most commonly available bag design, lasting through the fall of 2002. During the 1987-2002 period, there were also red bags, with a clear Royal patch logo, and in 2000, black bags. Bags for commercial all-metal uprights are available in either shake-out or zipper bag (add "Z" suffix to model number where applicable) for disposable inserts. Please submit any corrections or additions as is necessary. ~Ben |
