Finished my third rebuild while on vacation. This Silverado was a diamond in the rough. COULD NOT BELIEVE the condition of the canister and trim and after I spent a few months taking completely apart and cleaning and rebuilding it is near to new! The PN5 was really in bad shape though and obviously had been stored in a wet location seperate from the tank, and was a total loss except for the top, due to RUST and abuse. After the top went through the "tough scrub" and "sanitize" cycle in the dishwasher to my suprise the plastic shield over the top decal peeled off leaving a nice original top with a few marks. I wanted to keep the original look. The SUCTION ON THIS SILVERADO IS AMAZING! Outperforms any vacuum I have ever even used! So happy how it turned out!

When my Silverado first arrived.

So much dirt and webs and rust I was having my doubts, and had to clean in the back of the truck before I could even bring in the house. I was AMAZED at the condition of the tank. Not a single dent or rust. None in the motor either. Clearly the PN5 was stored in another location. The PN5 was bad!

Picture does not do the RUST justice.

Rebuilding PN5

pnluxconvlvr's profile picture
Had to find all new screws and sand and prime and paint the brushroll hold down brackets because I could not find new ones anywhere. It took months to locate and gather parts for rebuilding my three Electrolux vacuums. Almost seven months. PN5 (that's what I call him :) got a whole new base, motor, elbow, elbow cover, brushroll, belt, cord, and all new stainless screws.

Maybe I should clean up mine after I finish the CB. Mine rather looks like it's been dragged behind a truck. In fact I specifically lent it to my messy Ex-girlfriend because a: it was already beat half to death; and b: it is phenomenally strong. I'd come over to her house and find out that her kids had been cleaning with it and it had packed the bag solid, along with the first quarter of the hose. I eventually took it back and bought them a Rigid wet-dry unit, which if nothing else took them longer to fill up :\

I like the color gray myself, but a Siverado is just a great machine.

Hi suckolux

pnluxconvlvr's profile picture
I actually have another Silverado with a PN4A that I purchased from a really nice guy that did a rebuild and repaint on. I'll have to post those pics too. It is not the original exact match color but I liked the bronzy gray color. I had an Eldorado years ago that was called Sheffield Gray Metallic and it looked a different shade of gray dpending on the light. This Silverado struck me the minute I saw it and I had to have it. I'll post tomorrow. :)Tyler

My Silverado

is kinda beat up too. I gave it to my mom when I got a new Diamond Jubilee. She beat that poor thing to death. So I am going to have to rebuild it too... Will try to post pictures when done. Those silverados are work horses though. My step father even melted the inside of the bag compartment....

Would love to see the pics. Be sure to take some as you rebuid as I did not take as many as I should have and you will be glad you did later for memories and to remember how to put a few things back together. :) Before and after shots are great. :) Tyler

my uncle used to have a silverado, traded it in for a lux lrgacy or diplomat style and i wish he had told me, i was mad at im when he got rid of it but didnt tell him, those electroluxes will outlive and outperform practically any modern machine with a new hose, brushroll, belt and hepa bags

and I love it.  PN is not original that came with the machine, and I had to replace the hose, but other than that it is an awesome cleaner.  I got it from someone here on VL, but I just can't remember who.  Whoever it was, thanks again.
