I would recommend Sebo as it has the attachments on-board, is very quiet, and cleans very well too. |

A canister not be easier to handle, especially if sitting while using, maybe not, but might be worth a try, an upright for me is more difficult to handle. |

Hi Wes,
According to Consumer Reports the following uprights are best in "handling" - that is, they are easy to push and pull and carry: The Oreck XL Platinum Pilot or Platinum Power Team (weighs only 11 or 12 pounds - the Pilot is a better carpet cleaner) The Hoover Platinum Bagged Upright (weighs only 13 pounds and is better than the Orecks at carpet cleaning) With the above three vacs, you get a separate lightweight mini-canister that you can hang on your shoulder for cleaning bare floors and furniture. I have the Hoover Tempo Upright and it is extremely easy to use, but the on-board tools are pretty useless and it does not come with a separate mini-canister. If you want to buy an American made product, then go for the Riccar Supralite or Simplicity Freedom. They are excellent carpet cleaners, and weigh only 9 pounds each, but they are very noisy compared to the Hoover Platinum. They do not come with a separate mini-canister for above the floor cleaning. If you buy one of these lightweight uprights, they are great for carpet cleaning only. Buy yourself a rechargeable Swiffer Vac to clean your bare floors for $40 as a companion cleaner - they are great lightweight floor cleaners and would be really easy to use for a person with your particular needs. |

Try the Sears Kenmore Progressive Glide 30100! It's a lightweight bagged cleaner that is very good on carpets, and has a brush on/off switch for shutting off the brush to clean bare floors very well. It only weighs 13 pounds, and costs $230 dollars.
You can always get a nice lightweight Electrolux UltraSilencer Green bagged canister vac for above the floor cleaning as a great performing companion to this. |

Here's another option for you, though the vac is very expensive (around $600 to $800): The Sebo Felix Premium. It weighs only 16 lbs and is a very good German-made cleaner.
Consumer Reports gave it the following ratings: carpet cleaning = very good bare floor cleaning = excellent airflow through the hose for tool use = good noise control = good emissions control = excellent handling = very good It accepts a wide variety of optional floor attachments and other tools, and has an onboard hose for a quick cleaning of furniture and corners. You can buy a shoulder strap to hang it on your shoulder for above-the-floor cleaning, if you feel you can handle carrying 16 pounds on your shoulder.
