Found these and thought I would share. Some of you may have seen these already.

A small teeny tiny portion of one single store (of two the same size) here in Omaha. Owned by two brothers.

Here is the front room. ALways changing with vintage machines.

Continuing down to...

the first of two basements. This is where he keeps the newer and less rare stuff.

THe kirby PILE. My friend has bought most of them up already.

OMG, I would never find cool vintage stuff like that in a vac shop here, not even in the dumpster out back!  And that basement looks like a spooky vacuum graveyard.  No wonder you talk about that place a lot.

Post# 133647 , Reply# 8   4/22/2011 at 14:37 (4,724 days old) by Brandon_W_T ()

LOL

I have more pictures on AW.org, however its a super forum thread, and its old, so unless one is a member you cant view them. So I cant get to them anymore.

This isn't even the creepy part of the store. There is a whole nother sub basement with easily 3-4 times as many vacuums, with much much older and rare machines.

I have found some old eureka turquoise uprights, with cord winders, and lots of convertibles, as well as dozens of hoover coffee cans and such.

It.is.unbelievable. :P

There are tons of vac shops like that around here. Aren't so much fun yet so overwhelming at the same time?!

Post# 133658 , Reply# 13   4/22/2011 at 16:57 (4,724 days old) by kenkart ()
Unfortunately!

Here, I find most of my stuff at re sale shops and old hardware stores, I dont know of any old vac shops, or at least any that have anything, you are right about the Eureka, it is the counterpart to your Wards!! Late 40s early 50s, First of the Eurekas that are now Sanitaires!

I found more pictures!

First...

The massive canister bin on the main floor next to the shop.

That pinkish connie 84 way in the back is the one I own now.

Post# 134246 , Reply# 15   4/26/2011 at 20:29 (4,720 days old) by Brandon_W_T ()

More of the massive bin.

Notice that its about 7-8 or so feet high.

Chuck FULL.

MOAR

THE OLD BASEMENT.

This is where the real treasures were. The only light down in the vast basement was coming from that work light.

Looking to the other side.

THE ANTIQUE PILE! OMG!!!!!!!

A very very small edge of it.

It goes on and on and on and on.

Here is an entirely new never pictured before in this thread-room. Even larger than the antique room.

There were tons of plasty vacuums layered on top of lots of real old machines that we cant get to.... yet.

and this is showing only one wall of it.

Post# 134258 , Reply# 25   4/26/2011 at 20:39 (4,720 days old) by Brandon_W_T ()

For all your kirby nuts.

Check this puppy out. All original complete Scotts and Fetzer sanitation system.

Thats the original bag wrapped around the machine. We found the cord months later on the ground.

AND!

KIRBY MODEL C!

We found the original bag and cord later on, as well.

WE NEED the nozzle plug!

If the owner(s) ever want to clean the place out, wouldn't it be a great spot for a convention?! I bet we could make that stuff disappear VERY quickly!

Bet we could make that stuff disappear quickly....

There would be a feeding frenzy!!!  It's sad to see all those machines heaped up in piles in that dank, musty basement.  I'd love to dive into that place and pull out some treasures but I think my allergies would bring a quick end to the excitement.

Is this O'Dowd's the store located on 13th street?

Hello,

Is that store still open there?

Are the vacuums still there?

I've been searching for an original brushroll for my hoover model 700 or something to fit it properly.

Thanks.

Post# 134388 , Reply# 31   4/27/2011 at 19:33 (4,719 days old) by Brandon_W_T ()

NOTICE....

This is NOT Odowds on 13th street. HE HAS MORE VACUUMS AT THAT LOCATION- In MUCH BETTER condition and way way way more organized, and far rarer stuff than this place shown above.

This is ODOWDS on NORTH west Radial Highway.

And by golly he is definitely still open, and he definitely has all those machines still.

Thanks Brandon, I didn't know they had a shop out there. I have gotten stuff from the 13th street store before very nice guys good prices and very knowledgeable, you are right they do have a ton of stuff there I may or may not have shed a tear of joy my first time in there. I am going to have to make a trip to Omaha this weekend.

Post# 134413 , Reply# 33   4/27/2011 at 22:25 (4,719 days old) by Brandon_W_T ()

Cool!

Have you been to the 2nd floor of the 13th store, or the basement, or even the building next door? I have yet to. Greg has been in parts of them. Apparently they are packed full of old vacuums.

Packed is a word he didn't use lightly. lol.

Post# 134482 , Reply# 34   4/28/2011 at 08:30 (4,718 days old) by isufan11 (Minneapolis )

I have been to the building next door, I cannot begin to describe the amount of vacuums that they have. It is truly a collectors dream, they have everything, from old pump vacs to new Ricaar. I would highly encourage anyone who has a chance (or anyone who may be driving to the convention from out west) to stop by and check it out.
