Here are some pictures of Royal decals applied to the front of the nozzle below the belt cover.

First up: the 1986-2002 label, which reads simply Royal with its crown logo to the left. The last model to use this front decal was the 2008, which evolved from the model 882. The pic is of an 880, of which its mfg. date is October 1986.

HEAVY DUTY COMMERCIAL QUALITY

Some other Royals had this peculiar-looking label, reading HEAVY DUTY COMMERCIAL QUALITY. This one is from a model 885, dating from July 1989.

Next Up: COMMERCIAL QUALITY

Then, we have this label: COMMERCIAL QUALITY. The very first models to use this particular decal were models 8000, 9000, 9005 and 9089, all members of the "Preferred Series" ensemble.

After about April 1992, this decal was used on every Royal household upright up to 2002 (including models 885, 886 and 994), except for models 882, 2000, 2008 and 9100.

@kenkart
I had that same 801! It was not in working order due to its cord being cut (which is how I found it when I bought it from the Red, White and Blue thrift store). Sadly I took it apart (I may still have some good parts left).

Hans,

I wouldn't dare you to, either... rather, I would have you consult Mike Rogers about it, giving him the serial # off of the nameplate.

He said!

You had to take it apart!, he said it was hard to date the old ones by serial no., but I did find the same one in Good Houskeeping from 1958 "Same bag"

There must be someone out there besides me who's more knowledgeable about pre-1970 Royal serial numbers.
