Any chance of getting a closeup picture of the wheels you're referring to? |

Rick Asquith has already referred me to Mike Rogers. I believe the wheels are pressed on and will be difficult to remove. I purchased three of these from a man locally (he was getting ready to haul them off to the scrap yard). I spent yesterday and today polishing two of them up with steel wool and mothers.
They aren’t in the best of shape and had rust on them near the wheels and the height adjuster. Fortunately, most of the rust came off with a wire brush and steel wool. They run great mechanically, but the wheels have a lot of fiction. I can move the wheels with my hands forcefully. But the vacuum will not roll on the ground. They probably just need to be cleaned out. |

Thanks Brandon,
I have already tired 3 in one oil but the wheel is so tight on the shaft I don't think it penetrated down into the wheel. The wheel is so tight on the shaft/rod it will take some force to remove and I don’t want to damage the wheel. The little hubcaps on the end of the wheel are just pressed on. I have already pried them off with a flat head screwdriver. I went to Hesco and looked at the parts diagram. To me it looks like the wheel is just pressed on to the shaft. Not sure how to remove that. --It's interesting that the red Royal (9700) has a BPI indicator just like the Heritage/Generation Kirbys. The Royal with the green bag is five amps and the one with the red bag is seven amps. They are noisy but not as noisy as I thought they would be. They clean really well. I’m so happy to have two Royals to add to my collection. I have been wanting a Royal for a long time, but have put them off because they are so much like the Kirbys that I already have. I’m so pleased with them... Royal makes great vacuums! This post was last edited 03/27/2011 at 19:32 |

@kloveland
I believe that your Royal 9700 falls in the 1992-95 period because there is no burgundy surrounding the Adjust-O-Rite opening, and that the AOR plug itself also has the plastic knob shared with the commercial-duty models, rather than a metal knob. An example of a serial # on a 9700 would be: J93115252B (October 1993). Thank you, Ben |
