I went to Chad's Shop again! (had alot of fun!) He surprised me with the WestingHouse ConvertoVac and the Convertible! Is the Convertovac Rare??

I got the pump vac from a guy from where i live he got it in an auction about 35 years ago! Is that Rare??

Let Me know!

YAY! for Kyle! He got the infamous (or famous?? :-D) Westinghouse Converto-Vac! Quite a good find! Possibly up there with the Westinghouse MC-1, GE Roll-Easy, and the Bison! Maybe more common than the model 0, of course! :-D So, I'd say that the Converto-Vac is very rare! I saved some auction photos on eBay of a NIB/MIB Converto-Vac. It went for ~$990!! That is the most I have ever seen a vacuum go for! I like the pump vacuum, but I am unfamiliar with most of those brands. Great finds, however! :-D

~~K~~ (thanks for calling me, but we were at dinner! :-( Call me today around 2pm-3pm your time!)

Congrats, Kyle!

Of course I really like the denim Convertible. I am not sure how rare but one cannot find one of those everyday. I think that the COV is much more rare. It looks like the COV is a top line model with the headlight. How does it vacuum? I have seen one but it did not have a brushroll in it. I just wondered how you liked it on carpets. Did you get the hose with it too? The pump action looks like the one we have at the Hoover Historical Center. Ours does not work but I simulate how it would have worked. Thanks for posting the pics of your latest finds. Yes, lady luck has been good to you!

Converto Vac

Very cool, Kyle! The mother of one of my schoolmates had one. I never saw her use it as a canister. When she wanted to use the hose she just stuck it in the front where it went and did not bother with removing the long handle.

The Hoover is cool, too. But not "my cup of tea." Too new for my taste, but it's a neat machine and apparently also pretty scarce.

If you are interested in getting non-electric machines, keep your eyes on eBay. They come up fairly often and many times don't get any bids at all. There were a couple on just this past week that closed with no bidders.

Very nice. The COV I haven't seen before, well maybe a picture somewhere. I don't know how rare the denim convertibles are but I sure grabbed mine fast when I saw it. LOL.
I've seen the pump vacs now and again along with the wooden box vacuums that loook like a carpet sweeper but aren't a carpet sweeper more often than either the COV or the denim convertible. I think the reason for that is because more people kept those old wooden vacs and pump vacs figuring they might be considered antiques eventually whereas most people just tossed out things like convertibles and other ordinary electric vacuums never dreaming they would be a collectible or an antique some day because to them an antique vac was "wooden" and not electric.

Yes, you were VERY LUCKY!!

Congratulations on your latest acquisitions! And yes, the Convert-o-vac is somewhat rare, if for no other reason than the fact that when they were new, they were not very popular. I remember when they came out, I was about your age, give or take a year or 2. However, they are not as rare as your Hoover Model O or your Hoover Duster, which I think are the Crown Jewels of your collection.
The hand pumper is a rare one as well, but the Hoover Denim Convertible, while a great vacuum, isn't that rare of a machine.Tom Anderson could give you info about the Denim on years produced, number of units built, etc.
Anyway, enjoy your vacs, and thanks for posting the pictures.
Jeff

Great finds!

Congratulations, Kyle! I've never actually seen a Convertovac anywhere but in old magazine ads, and I'm old enough to remember seeing them advertised on TV when I was a kid. That one would be really cool for your next TV appearance!

Lady Luck ...LOL

Well,

Kyle I'm so glad that you like the Converto-Vac and The Denim Convertible. It just does my heart good that you love them and moreover, becasue of your willingness to keep and cherish them...I have finally thinned my collection to a MUCH more managable state...I just wanted to get them out of storage and give them to someone who appreciates them.

I know that they will probably be safe forever and will NOT be put into a local landfill or junk shop.

As uusal you may call me whenever you wish.

Chad

Great Finds.........

Hey Kyle,

You have some nice machines there. I too like that Denim Convertible. I noticed that it has a high "hemline". That is that the bumper is showing the hooks for the bottom plate. I have convertibles that do that too and some bumpers will not stay put and continue to ride up the base. Has anyone else seen this problem?

Joe
