Dear Charles, I've got a couple of questions for you if you would help me out...1). On the off-topic DOV #1171, your link shows a (Universal) Super Chief. Is that machine yours, if so, could you describe the hose that is pictured with it? I just obtained one of these vacs and (yours) is BEAUTIFUL!! 2). I have one Lux Lx rear cover that has a half moon shaped groove cut into it and, above the blower port is a threaded hole for something to screw into. All of the cordwinders I have seen are conventional, XXX-AE and attach with that thumbscrew device right inside the blower. Any Idea what went on the other things?....And now one comment/ After the arrival of your new AF hose...we are no longer separated at birth!!! You lucky dog!! Great Hose!!! Congrats!

Questions

 Hi Rick,

1 - No, that is not my Super Chief. I have had that photo a long time and don't remember now where I got it. Someone may have sent it to me, or it could have been one from an eBay auction that I saved. I am not sure. It is a beautiful machine isn't it. The same, of course, as the blue Universal that graced the cover of the latest newsletter. I do have the blue Universal, and I assume - looking at the photo of the Super Chief - that the hoses are the same, only different colors. The Universal hose is woven cloth, solid dark blue with no pattern. It appears that the Super Chief is, similarly, solid dark maroon with no tracing.

2 - You know, my earliest LX has the same rear cover as you describe -- the crescent-shaped "scallop" and the little threaded screw hole. I haven't the faintest idea what these are for. Obviously not for a cord winder since, as you point out, the LX uses the same cord winder as the XXX. This is one of those strange little Electrolux mysteries that I've never been able to solve.

3 - The vaporizer for the G was off-white. It was the same one as sold with the AF. The color did not change until the 1205, and that one was painted dark metallic turquoise - the same color as the body of the machine.

Turquoise Unit

 Charlie is correct (as of course he would be- he's the expert, not me!)- the turquoise unit was introduced with the 1205. It's important to get the correct one for your vacuum, because my understanding is that the turquoise one has a slightly different release tab setup that is specifically designed for the 1205 and later machines' exhaust ports.
