I scored an Electrolux non-electric upright hose and plastic wands from a classified seller, figuring I could use them on the 30/50/80 machines. I do have a variety of original hoses, some in fairly good functional condition, but none as good as a new one, and I wanted to "restore" my older machines to full use. Also, I had no need and didn't want to use the upright for anything but carpet.

I took an old unusable red hose, sawed it off as close as possible to the metal connector, and then dug, gouged, pulled, and scraped out the remaining crumbling rubber, string, rotting woven bits, and assorted gunk congealing around the metal end. Then, I pushed the metal connector over the top of the upright hose, and, lo and behold, a tight fit*.

Now the older machines can finally demonstrate their full, unadulterated power (which is considerable).

*Obviously, the fit would be completely tight if glued, and I might do that at some point, but its still surprisingly good.

Here's the hose with the wands "in action" on the 89. The hose made its debut vacuuming up all the above mentioned assorted gunk from the metal connector.

P.S. I should be used to it by now, but every time I use an 80 series vacuum, I'm astonished by how quiet it is.

The 88, especially the 2nd version, is by far my favorite Electrolux, and with this new hose it'll suck as good as new. What happened to your 88?

I may have some red attachments; I'll have to dig through my boxes. You'll have to give me a buzz when you come to town.
