I bought this PowerMax upright brand new back at Costco shortly after we had just bought our first new house. I had secretly wanted one sooo bad (didn't want people to know I had a vacuum fetish) but they were quite expensive at the time considering. Anyways that one day in Costco there they were, somewhat less expensive so I caved in and bought it. I love it. It was my daily driver up until about 2 years ago when I started collecting all these other vacuums. It's arguably the best upright vacuum cleaner Hoover has ever made I think. Basically it's a Concept One without the cord retractor but has the added bonus of on board tools (metal wands) a sliding power switch, a fragance tab holder, and a "power surge" position on the on/off switch, plus an extra long power cord and an extra stretchy hose. An added plus is that the hose stays connected to the vac and activates when the handle is in the fully upright position. The one fault is it's a tad noisy on high so I use it mostly on low. Nothing cleans dog hair infested carpeting better than this, or a Concept One.

Somethings in the air?

A fresh fragrance tab pops in and you can even adjust how strong you want it with the handy sliding switch cover.

Enough controls and buttons for most everyone

Adjustable pile selector, electronic power control, self propel on/off, and the main on/off/surge

I guess this would PowerMax would have to be my desert island vac now seeing as I lost my beloved Kenmore Duo Power upright. But this one outcleaned it ten fold.

I forgot to mention it's 99.9% allergen free when used with Hoover Allergen bags. Which I don't use because they're overpriced and we don't allow allergies in our house regardless. We're critter people. LOL

thanks for the pics, Pete. i agree, the PowerMax line could be considered the zenith of Hoover cleaners. the only reasons i dont have one, they all (i think) tend towards higher wattage (louder), and seems all PowerMax are power-drive. i dont like power-drive. if it wasnt for these two reasons, i would have a PowerMax right now, and LOVE it!

where is your upholstery nozzle, Pete?

I love the Powermax! The concept one offered such wonderful carpet cleaning performance...add tools and you have a vacuum that anyone can appreciate!

Great looking Powermax...these were great machines but gave way to less quality machines in the later 90's. I like the chrome wands. These will just tear into the dirt in your rugs and the tools were a much improved version over the previous Concept. I agree that these were louder for some reason. This is a machine that I would like to see brought back. I hope to find one some day! Thanks for reminding me of how great they were!!!
