Ok, guys jump in with what you think here. Consumers recomends the Tempo, price is fine. I have liked the Bissell bagged Powerforce? that I dumpster dived, enough not wanting to give it away. Recommendation to a friend that kills all that she touches, imput? Thanks in advance, David.PS, no bagless please!

Have you considered the Eureka Smart Vac... it's under 150.... though it does seem a little fragile for someone who kills everything she touches. It's powerful and the attachments are great. I've known people like that too (I mean who break everything they touch, not who are powerful with great attachments, LOL)! I think I'd go to a thrift shop and look for a used Panasonic or Hoover WindTunnel... non-self-propelled of course.

thought of that, this will be a yearly replacement at least! they suck up food on the floor, water, never change the bag, run it without bag, wrong bag, got the idea? I think its mostly the grandkids.

I suggest a full size wet/dry Shopvac.

thats true, but its a two story , 5 bed, 3 bath monster. As I said , pretty sure its the grandkids, killed 2 Kenmore Inteliclean uprights in a couple years.

I would suggest a basic baby blue Panasonic upright with onboard tools. The same one that Kenmore made in the 90s. They are great vacuums. And they only run about 100 dollars.

I still suggest a shopvac, but two for each level. there cheap enough that it won't be too expensive. That is seriously the only thing I can think of that would hold up to that kinda abuse.

nice ideas! Wonder if they would still put a Hoover bag on the Panasonic like they did the Kenmores? or none at all?

I think it's the grandkids...

Well, my suggestion is going to be a bit extreem... If you friend calls a Kirby dealer she's sure to get a good deal on a new Sentria if she uses the grandchildren as 'trade in'. She may not a a lot off the price, but if she sticks to her guns she should get $400 or a bit more off the price. What can you get for used children these days?
Just a suggestion.
Justin

If that won't fly...

If your friend is not willing to trade-in the grandkids(can't think why) maybe she should look at a Sanitaire. I like the 'Blue Line'.

I don't know if a fan first upright would be good in that situation! I think I would give a training class on how to use a vacuum, and forbid the kids from using it. Maybe she needs a push sweeper or a broom, those are pretty indestructible.

They had an aged Concept 1 for 20 years before this, hence my idea its the kids vacuuming? Due to economy in our area, daughter and her 3 kids moved home, then stuff went to s-it .Grandmas Kenmore died from heart failure, too many times no bag/wrong bag. The daughters matching, ingesting too much stuff that one should pick up or mop up, again, I think the boys. I am at a loss after giving cpr to them both for 2 years.

I second the shop vac idea. I've seen some of the newer machines that have hoses and wands that seem to be the same size as those on a household canister. They also have tools that are more suitable for inside the house and not just the garage. This might be the best choice and last a little longer. Or you could buy your friend a deadbolt lock for her closet so the grandkids cant kill her vacuum. I do like the idea of trading the grandkids in for a Kirby lol

If she lives in such a large house, I don't see why she would not have the ability to spring for a Metal Royal or something that will actually last longer than a few years?

You would be doing your friend an injustice to try and push some cheap big-box brand vacuum. Plus, in the long run, if she is looking to you as an "expert" for advice; it will make you look like a fool when the new cheap vacuum breaks after a short while.

They are renting big house to have room for added family, lost business, lost house, lost second car, bald tires, ect.I told them to go disposable because it makes me sick to deal with the abuse.

For repeat offenders...

39.99 Bissell bagged upright, cheap, easy to find economical bags...use...abuse...throw out as necessary...repeat! It would be a shame if they had something nicer and ruined it. Unless they can tell their kids to keep their hands off!

Then I definitely apologize for coming off too strong. A cheaper panasonic is the best way to go- that will last quite awhile, even with abuse and you get more bang for your buck than with a cheap bissell.

RE: trading in Grandchildren. I once tried to pass off my kids as "homemade gifts". That didn't work either. Everyone of them were always "re-gifted" to me.

Great ideas all of you guys, even the tongue in cheek ones! Thanks for the input. May just gift one of my finds, as long as I never have to see it again!Pretty sure the oldest grandson bats for our team, would think he could vacuum!

Go for a good used Filter Queen.

They are very durable, and clean well,. My aunt had a two level, 5 bdroom home with 5 kids. She had a Filter Queen with the pn, It was her only vacuum, and was very well used daily and also rolled down the spiral staircase several times and kept on going. She had that Filter Queen for 20 years.

Something like this would be ideal... we sold these at Sears back in 02 for 99 dollars and they were discontinued shortly after that, but they have been around for years in various colors. Classic Panasonic design. Of course we tried to get people to upgrade to the Progressive line for 50 dollars more, because we only made like 50 cents on the Whisptertone (they had Whipsertone and Progressive lines in canisters and uprights).... I got this picture from my local Craig's List.... they only want 25 dollars for it, which is all a used one is worth considering the price when it was new. Cleaning ladies liked them because of the metal handle... I never liked them because the hose was incredibly short and you had to reach for the power switch, but it did the job.

I have 2 friends with that same machine, I told them to take care of it, great workhorse for the money.Simple, easy, quiet. Reminds me of my mc 6255?? I think.
