I don't' know about

the upright, but the tank is a Universal. Check out thread #1148. I don't think this was an ad for vacuums, I think it was a consumer reports or good housekeeping article to help choose a vacuum cleaner. They used to not show or cover up the make or name plates on things to not "promote" any particular brand...

The Hoover machine is a model 27 from 1945...it was originally irridium grey and maroon. They changed it to brown/brown for 1946 and called it the model 28. The bag on the machine in the photo should be maroon with whitish Hoover lettering down the right side opposite the cord hooks.
