I have zero luck with trash or goodwill finds, so I could not believe my eyes when I saw a lady putting this out on the curb. The Hoover 69 is my favorite Convertible. The lady said it belonged to her Mother and she had no room for it. Believe it or not, she said her mother had it serviced just days or weeks before she passed away. It runs flawlessly. Would love the original bag, but how can I really complain??

Chris

Well, we live in a throw-away society, people would rather spend little money on a cheap modern replacement (and subsequently find it's a pile of manure), than to cherish the old stuff that has never broken down... :)

All you need to do to that is to upgrade the bag system (I think it's Type-Y, not sure, with HEPA bags and a proper filltube) and fit Sebo brush strips to make it a decent cleaner from what I have been told, I've never tried that myself though, the only Hoovers I have owners are Juniors (which I fitted Eureka VGII strips into!! And used better bags, of course)... :)

Ah, just looked it up, and the bag assembly is a Type-A setup (see link below) onto which you can fit Type-Y HEPA bags... :)

Dunno if you can dye it to match the vacuum though, but that's what experimentation is for... :)

Fabulous!

Congratulations! Just goes to show that when you least expect it, something wonderful can almost fall out of the sky!

The model 69 is a favorite among collectors -- it's probably my favorite Convertible to use (the 1060 is a close second).

Here's a picture of mine from a few years back...

Beautiful. The contrast between the original color bag (which btw, was neptune green) and the white handle was so striking.

Wow, what a GREAT find! Don't y'all just love it when this happens!! "Dreams still do come true!" :)

And I'd have to say, this would be my favorite Hoover Convertible. I just love the colors.

The other Hoover I like a lot, for the same reason, is the 63. I found one in a vac shop a few years ago, but never could find a bag for it -- so off it went when I moved.

That WAS a lucky find. I have to get a model 69 to add to my lineup of early convertibles. I was curious if anyone knew when it was (what model) Hoover switched to a more durable vinyl material for the outer bags? Were they always so brittle? I treated my 65, 66, 67 & 68 outer bags with Armor all to hopefully prevent further cracking.

Good find there, Chris! I wish people would throw out vacs like that up here in Canada, but no such luck! Seems like everyone up here is throwing out cheap Chinese-made junk, or really beat-up vacs you couldn't really do anything with.

The 69 was the first convertible to have a white handle.

That is a very nice Convertible. Wouldn't it be great if TTI would introduce a retro Convertible in a similar color scheme?

Convertible Model 69

That is a beautiful machine. I have three of them also, I won two of them off of ebay probably from fellow collectors. A dear friend of mine bought one at an estate sale (in flawless all original condition) since he is not an upright person he thought of me and I got it and added it to my collection. Well I don't need three of them(or the room for 265 vacuums at this time) so the first two have to go.I also have doubles and triple models of vacs in my collection and I will be thinning out the herd so stay tuned for the big sale..
