I have the 170 manual

scanned and on my computer at home. Can post the scans later after work. Dont have the 302, the nearest I have would be the 94, although that would not be that much different

152/160/170

These cleaners (all pretty much the same) were great, quite powerful, a brushroll with beater bar and bristles, give a real "hoover" sounds and cleaned well. Although a "dirty" fan cleaner it set new level of convenience for changing the dust bag, rivaled during the first 8 or 9 years only by the (much more expensive) DAM and the (not quite so expensive)Electrolux 500 series

Thank You

Thank You Very much, I have this machine for years and couldn't find a manual anywhere, not that I need it to know how the machine works but its always interesting to know what the machine can do and of the attachments it had. Do you maybe know from what year it was made? As far as I can see from the serial number it is somewhere in the 70's. Mine leak a bit of dust where the head connects with the handle part but it can be fixed.
But Thank You Very Very Much.

It was a pleasure

vacbear58's profile picture
and your thanks are appreciated.

The series began with the 152 1967-1969, 160 1969-70 and finally the very long lasting 170 which ran from 1970 until about 1980 or perhaps 1981 - my manual is from 1979. Interesting to see that it was also sold in SA. Where there many Electrolux cleaners sold there?

In fact, if you have time, it would be interesting to know in general what cleaners were sold there, there have been a number of interesting threads over in Automaticwasher about SA washing machines. I know if a couple of Hoover models, a variation of the 612 and the U4006 - a variation of the yellow Ranger model.

I need to scan the Lux 94 manual, so cannot post that one just yet.

I don't think there were much Electroluxes sold here I think it was only the Wealthy People who could've afford a vacuum cleaner when South-Africa got electricity. I Know of people with vintage Hoovers and Kirbys but the 302 and 170 Electrolux is the oldest I know of here, my grandmother got one electrolux with a retractable cord i don't know the model but it was dark brown, black and a mustard colour. Ive got a Hoover Model402 the oldest in my collection then i've got the U4006, Premiere mini, Electrolux Model 170 and 302, Vorwerk Model VK117 and 120 and a Kirby Legend II. My Dream is to find a Electrolux Model 30 XXX or the Lx Model but I don't Think that wish will be granted unless I buy it on ebay and import it. What is your Z170's Voltage mine is 220Volts and 200 and something watts. Im not Very Familiar with Washing machines but ive got a Easy Spinner Washing Machine, but hope to find one of those with the rollers above.

Thanks for taking the time to post this, Al! Wonder what made the 'b' version so special it needed a revised handbook?

Amusing that the photos weren't reshot though, that sturdy hairdo and crimplene mini dress dates them as somewhat earlier than '79!

Evolution

vacbear58's profile picture
It was at the point where the 302 was introduced that lux re-segmented their market from 3 model types (budget/mid-range/top of range) to 4, with this style model moving from position 2 to position 3

The picture of the cleaner hanging up is a re-touched picture of the earlier model 91, which was similar but a brick red colour, the 94 was navy blue, they have just changed froim the earlier combination nozzle to the de-luxe flipover

They have dropped the classic Electrolux pose, cleaner behind and to the left, hose clasped on left hand, passing behind the user, hose handle clasped in right hand. I stil tend to work that way with any cannister. The 302 had the more basic flip over tool

I was surprised to realise upon reading the manual more closely that Lux had dropped the plastic handgrip on this model, although it has gained a suction control - two more points indicating a re-touched picture as note above

The 94 ran from 1971 - 1974 (I would have placed its dates rather later than that but that is according to Electrolux themselves) with the 302 from 1974 - 1979

The 302 itself

vacbear58's profile picture
The 305 was the result of the re-segmentation, with the 302 dropping down the range. There was a further model 303, which had a black body and red ends

Hi thank you for all.the vac in the last manual looks allmost the same as the 302?on the model plate before the model theres a z like a z170 or z302 do you maybe know what it stands for?I Remember seeing an electrolux that almost looks the same as the 302 but it had chrome extension pipes,a black hose, the body was black, the front and rear ends was candy apple red,and the exhaustgrill where chrome do you maybe know a model with that colour scheme?it was somewhere in the 80's early 90's.but thanks again for everything.

Z

vacbear58's profile picture
Virtually every electrolux vacuum cleaner model number I know of begins with a Z, I am afraid I dont know what the signifigance there is with this. The other cleaner you describe sounds like model 303, the successir to the 302
