Electrolux Renaissance to Guardian

I have owned an Electrolux Renaissance in the past and I liked the unit, however I had a large German Shepard at the time and it just didnt work for me. My beautiful dog has been gone for 2 years now and I would love to purchase a Guardian just to have one, as Im a huge Electrolux fan. I know that from the Renaissance to the original Guardian there is no change in the motor, as far as I know. However I am curious to know if there were any improvements in motor performace somewhere along the Guardian line up. The machine Id like to purchase is the Guardian/9000, and I cant remember what year these were available, nor do I remember hearing about any changes to the motor. One other concern that I have is, does the Guardian have less airflow or suction compared to the Renaissance/Epic 8000 due to the HEPA filter? I know that these machines are not the best at deep cleaning and that a Miele could run circles around it, but I like its design, ease of use, manuverability, the HEPA filtration, and inexpensive bags. I understand all its short comings but would like to have one more for a collectors item than anything else. Any info is greatly appreciated!

Checkrate/Likes *Renaissance or Gaurdian ?* Steven, I have both the Renaissance and the Gaurdian, and I like the Gaurdian better then the Renaissance. The machines both seem to have the same suction. Which is very powerful, but the Gaurdian is a lot quieter then the Renaissance. Probably because of the big hepa filter that sits on the top of the vacuum. In my opinion they are both excellent machines. But I am a Big Electrolux fan. An Electrolux has been in our family since the 1960's... I use a Kirby for the carpets and a good old Electrolux for everything else..... Dan

Checkrate/Likes Dan, thanks for the info! Do you know if there was any change in the motor that was used during the previous Guardian line up? I wonder if Electrolux had to increase the power of the motor when they added the HEPA filter to make up for any decrease in airflow or suction strength. If I remember correctly my Renaissance was less noisy than my 6500, possibly due to the larger body, which also seemed to be constructed a bit better than the 6500. I know they can all stand up to a lot of hard use, but the Renaissance seemed a bit more solid than the 6500, probably becuase it was screwed together, not held together by those annoying tracks in the middle of the machine.

Checkrate/Likes Well, remember my Renny sucked up water and lived to tell about it.... such a fun machine! Let me ask.... the back check indicator light.... it's always "on" on mine.... does it go off when the bag needs changed, or come on? It's a brand new bag, so if it's not supposed to be on, maybe the water damaged something!

Checkrate/Likes Bobby, The bag check light is not supposed to be on all the time. It should illuminate only if the bag needs to be changed or if there is no bag inside the machine. If I remember correctly, when the light on my Renny came on the machine would shut off. The water may have damaged it or it could just be a short in the hose. I'm sure you already know but very careful with the hose handle, since the original Renny's were prone to faulty controls or easily damaged from dropping them. From what I remember when I watched your YouTube video, you have the light gray Renaissace which was the later model in which Electrolux supposedly had fixed the hose controls, but I would still be extra careful with it. The digital push button controls certainly look much nicer than the later slide switch controls on the Epic 8000/Guardian.

Checkrate/Likes *Bag check light* My bag check light on the Renaissance is always on and blinks on and off when the bag needs changing and the machine shuts off. However I haven't noticed how the light works on the Gaurdian I will have to check it out the next time I use the Gaurdian....
