That would have to be a Regina Housekeeper. Everything about it screamed cheap and flimsy.... |

Most if not all stick vacs. And Royal's hand-held and dirt devils. Though, I must say the new Classic they have out does a pretty good job. |

A 20 year old Oreck XL, I swear it couldn't pick up a spec of dust. Dirt Devil Reaction Fresh, always clogging and major PITA to use. |

Hey there Josef!!!
I'm actually surprised that your Eureka Bravo gave you problems. I bought the bottom of the line Bravo (no onboard tools) with a dark blue bag when they were highly rated by Consumer Reports. I loved that machine! The only complaint was the high noise level. But other than that, it's one of my favourite vacs because it deep cleaned carpets very well and was extremely lightweight and manoevrable. (It was kind of like Eureka's version of the Oreck and the new Hoover Platinum bagged). The gigantic bag was great too. Mind you, being the vac-o-phile that I am, I did not abuse the thing in any way. Still, I am surprised it was your worst vac..... *sniffle*... :-) EP Brian |

Hate to say it but, the worst vacuum i ever used was a Hoover Power Drive Dial a Matic. My parents bought it brand new from KMart in 1973,,it was the cream and tan colored one.
The power drive was jerky, and the little button on the handle to hold off the power drive only worked once in awhile. The suction was terrible, even with a new bag,,and it did not groom the carpet well. It spewed dust like crazy from the exhaust. There was no "edge cleaning",,the suction was so poor it would barely pick up a thread. I kept telling my parents this vacuum was NO GOOD, but they didnt listen. The little hose from the front to the back was always getting clogged, the bags would burst inside the machine, and when insered in the back, the hose suction was terrible, even on the "High" setting,,even with a new bag. My mother was using the hose setting to vacuum the couch one day and the machine caught fire and burned a black hole in the carpet. The whole works went out to the curb the next day. Guess we got a lemon? |

Lots of power, but dosent have a brush roll worth 2 cents,a worn out Eureka from the 60s will clean rings around it, for a canister, any of the new plastic stuff, if it ain't metal, it ain't a vacuum to me! |

except the one I got at Lowe's from Electrolux. That was actually decent. The downright worst vac I have ever used was a red Dirt Devil Swivel Glide MVP. The casters kept coming off and if I recall correctly, the motor burned up within 2 months of my mom purchasing it from WalMart. They actually took it back and she got a maroon Hoover Convertible at Target (Elite hard cover but was maroon and said convertible).

Dirt Devil Featherlights have been known to go up in flames and smoke-they have aluminum windings in their motors-saw several of these burnt up at the Vacuum Cleaner Hospital-in the dumpster. |

It seems the brushrolls in Dysons are useless or too aggressive-they pull out the carpet knap.-could this be used as a floor sander? The Dysons I have-a "Ball" and a DC07-the 07 beater bar is USELESS-nothing.the one in the Ball is better. |

A mid-80's red plastic Hoover bagged upright my brother bought our Mom. He said he paid a lot of money for it, but it's a POS in my opinion. Falls apart if you look at it wrong. I donated it to Goodwill last year. |

I convinced my mother to purchase a Fantom Fury to replace or use along with her Eureka Express canister and our Lux tank when they were all the rage back in the early 90's. It was reasonably priced and came with the extra extension hose as an added bonus. I remember the first time I used it in our basement I nearly filled the dirt bin, its not a very large room and it was vacuumed on a regular basis. Maybe it was just the way it seemed to "fluff up" the dirt inside the container that made it look like more than it really was. Its funny though, I recently ran into our former housekeeper last week after maybe 15 years of not seeing her and she was responsible for some of the Fantoms many "accidents". We also had a housekeeper that lasted for one day who was a total nut and went storming out of our house saying the Fantom was possesed with some type of omen, she obviously wasnt properly medicated and was soon deported for letting her temporary citizenship expire. While the unit did have good suction, some good tools for its price point (dusting brush was very nice), and wasnt a screamer like the others, its did have several short comings. One huge problem was it leaked dust like crazy! Through the seal where the dust bin met the machine, from around the HEPA filter, even through the motor housing. I remember taking the machine apart because I didnt think it was working that well and I was disgusted by all the dirt that had accumulated inside the motor and the base housing. The overall concept of the machine was good but it was just executed so poorly along with crappy build quality, which lead it to be tossed out to the curb after just a few years. Its a shame since it was a good looking machine that had a lot going for it but its downfall was the poor design of the motor placement. It was a supposed "bypass" design but the motor was almost directly inline with the dirt. Its not really the worst machine Ive used, the Regina Housekeeper is the worst, but it certainly was the biggest dissapointment after all the hype surounding the brand and our initial impression of its performace.
