I've owned a few Kirbys before, mostly 500 series, and have a couple of later ones now. However; lately I've been aware of the more modern machines with the streamlined look. Today I got a G6D at the Goodwill Outlet store, no attachments of course, just the basic machine. Grunt, hefty little sucker, but I hauled it over to the test area, plugged it in, and sure enough it ran well. I must admit I wasn't even aware of the assisted drive feature but once I got home and started looking into it, I checked that all out and wow, does that machine really take off. The assisted drive makes vacuuming much easier, and justifiably so with such a heavy unit.

My earlier Kirbys take a disposable bag, but this one had a filty cloth sack attached to the plastic hose inside the outer bag. It was like a small laundry bag with a cord and plastic keeper to cinch it around the hose. I took that out, vacuumed out the inside of the outer bag, and installed a disposable bag (I sometimes get packs of these at the Goodwill Outlet store too so have plenty).

Vacuuming a vacuum. I find I must do this sometimes when I get a new acquisition. I have a fairly late model Electrolux Harmony that I use for this task mostly. The Harmony is a very quite machine with lots of suction.

Although this G6D is only about nine or ten years old, the aluminum is spotty and dull. I'd like to clean it up; automotive polishing compound do the trick?

Hello. I like the Gsix. Great vac. And congrats on finding it.
Automotive/metal polish should get it looking better.
A bench grinder with a mop+compound on it.

The G six should not have a clothe bag in it. Unless you mean the Filteret Hepa 11 bags as they are a white clothe type material. But you don't wash them you put them out in the bin(Trash) when there full.

Hope this is of some use to you.
Also I recommend only using genuine Kirby Drive belts as othere stretch easy from past experiance.

Happy Kirbying;o)

Gary,

The G6D is a great machine. The Diamond Edition I beleive. I bought one new. Love the machine.

If you use the Micron Magic bags, and if the fill tube is free of any holes or leaks...there won't be any dirt escape from the bag.

As James has said above, make sure you use original Kirby belts, remembering that Kirby has two styles of belts. The older 500 series use a soft belt, the newer G series use a tougher belt with ridges on the inside of the belt. They last much longer and rarely slip.

I use Mothers Mag on all my machines with very fine steel wool. It is work, but they clean up well.

Have fun! Watch Ebay, the tools are often out there. You will be amazed at the suction and performance.

Morgan

I dug out a tin of old DuPont (now PPG) #7 automotive polishing compound and that stuff works very well cleaning up the aluminum without using a wheel. I had that from the dim past when I mistakenly thought rolling around on the ground under an old car was fun. Of course this material won't take out the deep scratches on the brush roll housing where the machine previously was rammed under low-hanging furniture. After looking at the rear wheels, I've decided that the hub caps must me missing so I'll keep my eyes open for a pair of those but things are coming along nicely with this machine.

I bought my G6 the day they were delivered to the shop I was working in. I had wanted the G5(I loved the color) and my boss did offer to hold his last G5 for me if I wanted. But, I wanted a new toy, so I got the G6. I love it. I have put the new style brush roller in it and I'd swear that it cleans better now. Now I want a Sentria but keep loosing the bids on eBay. But all the talk about the next new Kirby has me thinking that I should wait six months and see if the Avalir, or whatever they call it, does turn out to be some new marvel.
Good luck with the G6. Try that new brush roller and the white cloth-like bags. You'll love it.

G series

I also have the G3,4,5,6, and I also have the UltG and the Ultimate G Diamond Edition, and A new Sentria. I can only use the G3 through the G5 on my Berber carpet these kirby's have the softer brushes the G6 on up tears up my carpet.I guess the brushrolls are to stiff. But I still like to use my Old Model 561 It seems to work great on the Berber carpet. When I replace the Berber with plush carpet then I can use the newer Kirby's..
