Mine is my kirby d-50. Yours?

Post# 116952 , Reply# 1   12/4/2010 at 20:07 (4,890 days old) by Sablekid ()

Probably the Kirby 505....or the DS-50 since it was my first find.

Nice-- My D-50 is a great machine. It just has some bad bearings.

Ive always loved the styling of the hoovers from the '20s to early '30s. PS: Before i had a vacuumland account, i came across that picture on google images and saved it on my computer. Proof:

That would be my Kirby Model 560. I use it as my avatar. Call me sentimental, but it was manufactured the year I was born -- 1960. Maybe that has something to do with it being my favorite! LOL! The vacuum is in perfect shape and runs like a top too. I also have the full set of attachments. The only thing that isn't original is the four row brush roll. The new style brush roll turned it into a cleaning beast!

Post# 116964 , Reply# 6   12/4/2010 at 21:16 (4,890 days old) by kirby16 ()

The 560 is a beatiful machine. One of my favorites! Of course, any kirby is my favorite.

Off topic: Hey, ive seen pictures on the internet of Kirby D-80's colored blue and even red. Have any of you seen these?

Post# 116972 , Reply# 7   12/4/2010 at 21:31 (4,890 days old) by DysonAnimal ()

Kirby16: yes, LOTS of my vac images show up on google, and people think they have the right to save them and use them as they wish. On their websites, on eBay...

The one you've posted isn't actually the same one as the one I posted; when I took the one I posted, I used the flash - the other one was taken with natural lighting from the window opposite.

Glad you liked it, anyway!

That would be a toss-up- either my Kirby Classic III or Electrolux 89 canister vac.

No, people are more than welcome to save my pictures - just not to use them online without permission. I'm not about to start policing other content of other people's harddrives!

Yup, my photo and my text...

Case in point. But I don't want to turn this thread into me whining about photos, lol - on with the vintage vacs!

Another favourite - 1933 G.E Model 111:

Wow, that GE is awesome. I've never seen that one before. I like the unique handle setup.

Kudos to you for the 800 restoration- I'll bet it's nicer than when it was new. Beautiful. Now I want one!

Electro-Hygiene 903

hygiene903's profile picture
Actually most of the machines in my collection are favorites for one reason or another, but if I have to pick just one it would be my Electro-Hygiene 903. I've always had a special connection with Electro-Hygiene, but the model 903 upright was the one I used to sell, along with the 966 tank.
Other favorites include Kirby D-50 and Classic III, Lux XXX, AE, and G, Hoover 300, 475, 26, 28, 29, 63, and 82 Constellation, and Royalaire 260.

kirbyclassiciii's profile picture
For me it is also a toss-up...

I say all pre-1990 Royal all-metal uprights - household and commercial - because of their 6-blade fans and Adjust-O-Rite height gauge plates.

But I do like Kirbys, too ... again, my grandma's Classic III is my prized possession.

My favorite vintage vac. is the Kenmore 'BUG EYE'. I don't have one however, maybe someday if I win LOTTO. I think one sold on EBAY not to long ago for about $600.00.

I had a vacuum store several years ago and I still have some of the 'bo-jack?' replacement trim kits for the 500-D80 Kirbys. Let me know if you are interested in them.
Anyone out there know where I can get parts for the commercial Kirby called the Super Vac 180? It's the same as the American Lincoln, Super Sweeper and ComVac. I've been looking for one for many years and found one in a thrift store yesterday. It runs well, may need to take it apart and clean and lub.

Kirby D50, with out a doubt. I have two, gave a third (I refitted in blue with mini emtor and Tradition bag) to the local thrift store. My grandpa had one, at 6'4" he towered over it. Shoulda kept that one, too.

In my opinion, the 1937 Air-Way model 55 in glorious Purple. Complete with original hose, cord, and all attachments (including the optional Whirl-A-Way) Stunning color, perfect filtration, timeless classic design.

another beautiful machine I would love to have-the external filter NSS Bronco wet-dry vacuum-the motor was on top of the lid-Large blue "Horse" logo bag connected to the motors radial fan discharge opening. The tank and lid were polished.Saw one at a Daycon showroom The motor could be detached from the lid to use as a powerful blower.A small bag could be attached to the output-and a hose adaptor for the intacke-a small scrap trap on it like the Pig.A sling allowed you to carry it around as a "hip" vacuum. The motor housing was polished,too-like a Kirby. The Broncos today have the internal motor and filter.Just not as cool. This would have been early 70's.And at the Daycon place was another pretty vacuum-a Certified Pile lifter-all polished and had a huge blue bag.two motors in polished chrome housings.one to power the giant roller brush-other for suction. Both of these are on my "wanted" list!Hope to run into them someday.I wasn't into vacuums so much then-but of course more so today.

The Hoover model 28 models with the rarely found steel motor hood! I do not know why Hoover made some 28's with steel motor hoods...but you do not have to worry about them breaking if something falls on them as with bakelite hoods.
