In thumbing through Craigslist last week, I found an ad for yet another lonely Hoover Spirit for $20. I emailed the guy, and a few days later got a response that it was still available. But it was about 30 miles away, in Stillwater, MN. Meanwhile, Robert suggested that we maybe go to Stillwater on Sunday (today) and hit a few antique shops. So we did, and I snuck the Spirit into our adventure for the day. When I was in High School, one of my good friends mom had this model. I fixed it once. I believe she was using it until a few years ago when she said the switch went bad on it .. and just threw it away. :-(

This will be one of my next projects.. again, like the other Spirit, I think this will turn out beautifully. Doesn't seem to have been used all too hard, and it sounded healthy (but loud--they all were) when I ran it tonight. I'll post 'after' shots when I get it all done.

Anyways, here are some pictures:

I've always loved the simplicity of this powernozzle.

I saw that

CL ad in Stillwater. I'm glad to see someone got it for a great deal! As luck would have it, I don't travel to the Twin Cities any longer.

Every other year......Thanksgiving without fail. But now? LoL.... Is that HUGE antique store sill open just before you get to the prison that went condo?

Congratulations on the find!

Nice find! I am sure it will look like new in no time. Is that the quadraflex beater? They really kick butt.

Those are one of my favorite canisters! I have a couple of them and I love them to death. Their suction combined with the Quadraflex power nozzle is just an amazing combination!

It's only the 2-brush strip agitator, not the Quadraflex. Although, I could put a Quadraflex in it if I really wanted to at some point. I think the 2-brush does just fine in most applications, though. Spirits don't have tremendous amounts of suction or airflow, but they definitely have enough to get the job done. I like how light-weight and compact these cleaners are. Very easy to carry around and maneuver. In my collection, I have one of the models from the first run of Spirits.. it's mint green with a cord winder and the smaller powernozzle. I found it with all of its attachments at Goodwill. It was rough, but I brought it back to life. I also have one of the later black and grey TOL models, with the cord winder and the higher-end Quadraflex Powermatic nozzle, which someone brought into Hoover and needed a simple repair--but opted to not get it fixed because of its age.

Green one:

Congratulations Fred on another great find! That is a really cute Spirit. Great too that all the tools are with it. I visited Stillwater one time and loved that little town! Did you know that is where Roger grew up?

I have got that same black one except mine has the tool caddy underneath the bag cover. I found it in the garbage with a bojack hose and no power nozzle. I still haven't gotten around to find parts. But my favorite is probably the first one I got. It is a bottom of the line orange and white straight suction model. I like how simple it is for some reason.

I love the Hoover Spirit, this is one of the childhood machines I want to find. Two I need to find. Excellent machine. Did the BOL versions not have a cord-winder?

Do the spirits use the same bag as the dimension?

Post# 116361 , Reply# 14   11/29/2010 at 10:42 (4,895 days old) by HooverCelebrity (Germany)

No. The Dimension uses an 'M' bag, Spirit uses a 'K' bag. Spirit bag is a bit smaller and has a different collar.
